Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

Collected Galatea from Eyemouth today.

This is just to mention that many boats were still in the sheds, although the auctioneers' deadline for collection is tomorrow....

Linton Hope! Chapeau!

(I've got his book on amateur boatbuilding and his edition of Dixon Kemp).

Re: Advice on owning an Uffa Fox International Fourteen, ple

Hi, I bought the little Sea Ranger which is in the Ostrich shed. I'm going up with my son on Wednesday 2nd to collect it in the afternoon. If anyone else is collecting then, happy to do some mutual boat lifting and loading. Some of the boats are on racks and may take a bit of ingenuity to retrieve....

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

Did anyone bid on Alarm? I was thinking about it to prevent it from being destroyed. ALARM sold for £475.00 (If you registered to bid, you can log on to the website and see the prices paid, but not of course the name of the buyer.) I had a look at her, but concluded that her condition was beyond my...

Dear Chris, That is extremely helpful, and looking through your photographs is a great encouragement. Just what I need, in fact. I am very impressed with your treatment of the transom hood ends and the stem. I an nervous about using a chemical stripper because it would get into the oiled cloth betwe...

Advice on owning an Uffa Fox International Fourteen, please?

Somewhat to my own surprise my bid on K478 Galatea at the EISCA auction was sucessful so I shall be setting off to Eyemouth with the family Firefly's nice combi trailer in a few days. There seem to be a few things that people do with Uffa Fox boned Fourteens: (1). Donate to a museum (2). Leave in th...

Re: Please help me choose a dinghy cover?

Another vote for Sail Register poly cotton - in fact the new cover is sitting under the old one because I gave the old one a scrub and a go in the washing machine and it came up good again. But - I haven't been able to contact them for a couple of months now. I ordered a Firefly cover and after a ch...

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

I just bought GALATEA, K478, so I shall be en route to Eyemouth with the trailer and must now take Neils' words as a challenge! Watch some chap stick a jet wash in the bilge of K478 here: https://www.facebook.com/RacingAndRiverBoatMuseum/ plus there are still a few photos on their FB page. Seems so...

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

And Flying Cloud will be going to Maldon, although a slight error bidding, as I assumed once the reserves were off if would take incremental bids - oh well. Once invoices / gate notices are issued, I offer to collect sails, rudders, dinghy masts etc. from Lowestoft for storage or forwarding from Ma...

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

At the moment the leading bid on "Flying Cloud" is the £300 that I put on before I became aware of your interest..... I have bids on some sails at Eyemouth so I might need to go there or arrange something with someone who is going there. It will go for a lot more than that..... so no prob...

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

Hang on a minute Gilbert Umfreville Lowes was killed in WW1. Otherwise good and I will step out! Well not good for GL (RNVR, injured, died 1919), but in 1914 HS assumed the proprietors role and the company was engaged in construction of patrol launches, then HS was involved in early seaplane constr...

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

Thanks. Re-planking a Fox 14 is not my idea of fun.

Tomorrow we shall know - I see a lot of reserves have been reduced. Good luck with your bids.
