Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

Hi All, I have opened the bidding on I14's K500 Zeus and K347 Alarm. I am hoping to save these boats from a sorry end and I have the time and facilities to restore them. If anyone else will be bidding on them let me know and I wont bid against you, just want to make sure that they don't end up in t...

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

I am totally confused now: suddenly a lot of new boats, some of them of historical importance, are listed for the first time at a very late stage in the auction. The question remains: "Are there going to be enough people interested in these boats to give them all a good home?" I hope that...

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

Unfortunately I am unable to go to Lowestoft for the viewing tomorrow, and if anyone is able to attend I would be very grateful if they would have a look at Zeus, K500 and Encore, K847. I am also interested in Fleur de Lys, K715 and Buttock Up K780. There seems to be some confusion over "Imp&q...

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

Just to say Thank You to dronskiuk for taking the time to show me round and for taking the excellent photos of ENCORE requested by the rebuilder and custodian of RIPPING YARNS K850.

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

I was wondering why the reserves had been reduced on three big boats in good condition and on a lot of museum exhibits and books and equipment. The penny dropped - the items on which the reserves have been lowered are all in the main (Fishmarket) building and the terms of sale require them to be rem...

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

As of this morning some bids are shown as having met the reserve on the lots concerned. There does not seem to be a whole lot of logic to it, though.

Hope Beaulieu make that known in time! If she is Giles then the green one is for sure.

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

Can anyone identify these two early Fourteens? Neither was in the catalogue when I last looked, a few minutes ago. Both are lug rigged with bamboo spars, and are single skin carvel planked... http://i535.photobucket.com/albums/ee352/acraigbennett/IMG_4039_zpscdhicqku.jpg http://i535.photobucket.com/...

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

I know I need to strip and revarnish the family Firefly and replace her foredeck in the next few weeks. That being the case, should I even think of taking on the responsibility of restoring to sailing condition and maintaining a real classic, like a Fox Fourteen? Obviously I should not. So, of cour...

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

My concern with this whole collection is what happens to the boats that don't sell and the administrators start to see it as a liability which costs money to store rather than an asset! That's very much the point. Presumably it was the cost of storage which led to the administration in the first pl...

Re: International Canoe

fwiw, (not much) we have K229, wood Nethercot, "Ogaf the Unbearable", also dated 1992. So either the date is wrong or 1992 was a good year for Nethercots.

Re: Hull paint

In the interests of historical accuracy I record the useless fact that in 1962 I spent hours applying silicone wax polish to the bottom and foils of my father's GP14. I.e. in those days that was reckoned the way to get the last tenth of a knot. More seriously if you are applying epoxy paint get all ...

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

I'd respectfully draw attention to Lot 421, the Linton Hope designed AQUAMARINE, in Eyemouth, which I think may be an RCC "B" Class Canoe, and looks in almost reasonable condition. Some Aquamarine and Mederka discussion at http://www.intcanoe.org/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=1873 Thank...

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

I'd like to look at the Lowestoft boats on Thursday 20th July, and I have it from the ybw web page here http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?482385-Auction-of-boats-from-EISCA&p=6127916#post6127916 that that is the viewing day for Lowestoft Cardiff 14 July Eyemouth 18 July Lowestoft 20 July ...
