Re: Roadford 2016
Hope to be there with either Gull 1460 (if windy) or N12 2302 / 2323 (if nice and gentle). Do we need to say in advance what boat we are bringing?
Re: Stealth
Is this the Woods Stealth? (There's an foreign interloper by the same name) If so I remember RW bringing the prototype up to Starcross to sail. Radical looking boat for that time.
Just looked it up on the Woods design page - is that the orange boat in question? Looks great

Re: Old Proctor mast 'rivets'
Thanks for all the interest - I've definitely escaped many chores whilst following up all the interesting leads. I think we may be on to something with 'drive rivets' http://www.southco.com/en-gb/10-38 I can't be 100% sure but these are very much like what came out of the mast (because I threw them ...

Re: GP14 mast
Roger, thank you. If someone is coming to Roadford that's great but we may also be coming your way in the next couple of weeks. If so would it be OK to try and arrange to collect it? If so I'll drop you an email. Ian

Re: Old Proctor mast 'rivets'
Michael, yes the holes on the mast fitting are slightly recessed so the end result is a virtually flush surface. The 'rivet' is not solid as it appears to have a narrow core of the same material (though at a quick glance it appears solid, but when the surface is filed back the core can be seen). it ...

Re: Old Proctor mast 'rivets'
Thanks for the comments, they are definitely not pop rivets (aluminium core as well as the outer) I'll try to post a picture.
I didn't realise pop rivets went up to such large diameters so may well be a solution.

Old Proctor mast 'rivets'
I am 'renovating' an old Proctor mast (early 60's, with diamonds - pale blue!). There is a separate semi circular cast aluminium fitting where the forestay connects, it partially covers the jib sheave box. It appears to be fitted to the mast with some sort of aluminium 'rivets' 4 in total, each abou...

Re: GP14 mast
We have a couple of GPs at our club with rather ancient masts, if no one has a more specific use for it I am sure it would be appreciated here. Lympstone SC near Exmouth so collection is easy for us. Ian

Re: Buoyancy bags for N12
Unfortunately the potential supplier has gone very quiet so I'm still looking for some reasonable condition bags for N2302 & N2323 both of which are almost ready for the water again. Ian 01395 222136

To paint, or not to paint, that is etc
I'm sure it's been asked many times before but if you are rescuing an old clinker boat (N12) and under the horrible conglomerations of paint you find generally good condition ply is it preferable to varnish so that the grain and colour of the timber can be seen (along with all the patching etc.) or ...

Re: What is the correct term for..
A while since the original post I know but I've just received some paperwork regarding National 12 N2302 which I will be working on - the original Chippendale invoice calls them Washboards, as of 17/05/1965 this particular optional extra (fitted) would have set you back £1 and 5 shillings...those we...

Re: Canvas covers and masts with diamonds
Jim, hopefully no glue in this Proctor aluminium mast! Probably I will just have to use more kicker or put some pre bend in the mast. Didn't want to go too heavy handed before I'd checked the hull over a bit more.

Re: N2323
Ok, I got a bit despondent with this one and tried to find her a new home however sadly (wisely?) no one wanted her.....but now the sun is shining again and she's back in the garage, the epoxy is working wonders and we've now reached the stage where it's just possible she may be afloat again in a fe...
