Re: Leader dinghy
Lots of GRP leaders around - most were probably GRP composite (Plywood decks).
One of the nicest family dinghies around. Almost as roomy as a wayfarer, sails much better than the similar sized wanderer, and lighter and more responsive to sail than both.

Re: Tiller extension needed
Use the old bamboo!! Cut the end firings of the previous extension if available and use them. Otherwise, by one of the rubber swan neck type e.g. Allen-AL5198 and use that. You will need to select bamboo that fits over (or can be made to fit over) the rubber plug part of the joint. They are stiff en...

Aluminium sliding on aluminium in a marine environment - not going to last long. Quite innovative though. Note the seat seems to be positioned in one of two possible places.

Re: Odd rigging... What are these for?
If the shrouds passed down through the outer eye on each side, you would have a tension only spreader arrangement. This would tend to prevent the mast bending sideways without the mechanical difficulty of spreaders on a rotating mast. There was a time when spreaders were only used to prevent mast be...

Re: Boat race bilge pumps
I've got three on my narrow boat (which I just sold as it happens) and they shift a lot of water. But still no where near as much as a panicking man and a bucket can shift... and the 12V battery would be quite a weight burden.

Re: Self centering Rudder.
Velcro hooks on the deck and fur around the tiller extension - allows you to set the rudder at any chosen angle, which can be useful, especially single handed cruising (heaving too, throwing up, etc).

A coleman will produce a lot of warm moisture in the air - when it cools down it will get very damp in there!

Re: Finn edge of the wedge!
I do miss my Finn! I will get another one some day. Rupert is right - they just feel right - what was the comment - why is such a heavy slow boat so fast? British moth to sell first. I have a new job nearer home so will no longer be mothing on the river in Oxford on Wednesday evenings... I will miss...

Re: Removing non-slip deck paint from grp
Do you know what type of paint it is? If its an epoxy paint then it will have bonded to the GRP and that will probably only come off by mechanical means. If it is not already coming off, then consider why do you need to remove it? If its polyurethane there are a number of strippers that will remove ...

Re: Off topic 'what is that?'
Just 9 Lada Riva 1.5 estates left actually driving. Loved that car. Especially loved how when bombing down the motorway you could turn the steering wheel quite a long way before the car actually noticed! Ours did the same. Also, I once had to do an emergency stop. The problem was that ever after, t...
