Re: International Moth 3848 mast step puzzle

As I remember, on the last of his Demon Kings and his first Dragon he used a neoprene 'boot' glued to the deck and then tied round the mast once it was stepped.

Re: international moth magnum 8 k3941

Coming back to this; cockpit layouts varied hugely, totally down to the builder's preference. By 1976 for boats with wings the 'semi-self-drainer' was the commonest, with a footwell and sunken deck to sit on, as per the red Sprite that was seen some time ago on the bay. The long deep narrow cockpit ...

Sorry, meant Beachcomber:

Only those two had that pointed bow shape in ply, I think, though the Sunfish is similar.

It appears to be a Seabat.

Re: The ideal flat bottomed boat

There used to be some plans in an archive on the Aussie Moth website, including the Cole Mk2 aka Supermoth single-chine, the Bunyip, and the McFrawd which was one of the last and best designs of scow; the archive has gone after all the changes in their website, and hadn't been updated since 2006 any...

Re: The ideal flat bottomed boat

Or do what someone in the USA did and cut a couple of feet off each end and make it into a retro-style Classic Moth Boat..............there have been quite a few old L***rs chopped in the same way and made into Masers. Generally they are known as 'Frankenboats'. http://earwigoagin.blogspot.co.uk/201...

Re: international moth magnum 8 k3941

mystery-Skol2.jpg Here is the Mystery Moth from the ebay ad alongside a Skol 2. The Womble had a chine from the transom to just ahead of the daggerboard slot, so I don't think the MM is one although it's fairly similar. The Mistral was the other popular stitch-and-tape design at the time, but that ...

Re: international moth magnum 8 k3941

I saved the pics of the Mystery Moth from the bay ad, and the more I look at it the more it looks like a Skol 2 with a custom layout...........

Is it GRP or ply?

Re: Another peice of moth history!

Nope, no idea!

My first new Moth was K3631 so if that number is right it's from 1976. It looks a bit like a Mistral but the transom is narrower and flatter in the middle.

Re: magnum 8 info

Roger Angell had K-3920 from new, I have some photos of it at Lymington but I can't remember what year - it was red with varnished deck; I think it was one of the first two built.

Re: what is a moth

Maximum mast height is (or was) 20 feet, and maximum luff 17 feet (big difference = to allow for hog-stepped masts). Before the 1970 unification the Aussies didn't allow wings and had 80 sq. ft. fully-battened sails, while the Europeans did allow wings and had a 15-foot luff 85 sq. ft. one-design sa...

Re: Low rider moth fest.

That red one looks like a Magnum 8............too wide for a 9/9.5/9.9, and round-bilged, but with a mast stump and a gantry.
