Re: Calling Firefly Experts

If 265, she has been converted to Mark 2 decks, possibly at the same time as the gold Proctor rotating mast and gold boom replaced the original Reynolds boom.

265 not in my 1988 records, so best bet would be to contact Peter Lanham at boatregister@fireflyclass.co.uk

Re: How to brace MK1 Firefly centreboard case

Saskia has a very simple strut from the top of each side of the case to the top of the side tank. This is much stronger than anything diagonal leading to the floor. It should be as far forward as possible, and also acts to keep the buckets in place. I also have the centreplate cleats mounted there, ...

Re: Dinghy show again

I'll be there, having lunch with other club of the year nominees. Not sure what to expect, hopefully bread rolls to throw!

Otherwise, I'll be wandering around looking lost as usual, spending time looking at MS number 1, the new Lightning and hopefully catching up under the organ.

Re: What was wrong with the Mirror 14 / Marauder?

We have 2 competitive miracles at Whitefriars. They look ok, but I've never been tempted out of the Firefly to join them. The stories the owners come back with from their events certainly reinforce what you are saying about the fleet, though.

Re: What was wrong with the Mirror 14 / Marauder?

Ah, I miss read the sentence. All is as I thought.

I've never sailed the M14, but the Miracle is quite nice to play in. The Mirror is still the best of the bunch, though.

Re: What was wrong with the Mirror 14 / Marauder?

David, you imply that the Miracle design dates from the same time as the Mirror 14? I've always assumed that the Mirror group asked for it afterwards, when it was clear that the 14 was too much of a step up from the Mirror.

Re: Mystery boat.

There was one parked opposite my boats at Whitefriars. The raked transom was interesting, as was the very raked bow, but it didn't sail too well. I'm sure there are old threads about the boat if you search.

Re: Hunts in June

That Nessa, Nicky and the gang at Hunts will be incredibly welcoming and there will be cake!

Racing is competitive, but I'm pretty sure hardly anyone remembers who wins, but we all remember the boats.
