The ones in question are attaching my genoa so as these are tightened each time I sail there should be no problem using a screw or toggle clevis. Thanks for the replies!

Am I alone in hating shackle rings? They seem to be designed to frustrate and annoy, especially on a cold wet day when fingers are less than nimble and the little blighters ping off into the grass! Is there any reason other than cost for using these and can I safely replace them with screw or captiv...

The boom on my GP14 has split over the winter (200mm crack at base of sail slot) - Is this repairable or do I need a new boom?

Good information and supplier - http://www.agwoodcare.co.uk/show_product.php?id=106&gclid=CMSVvca6-YoCFQrlQgodLkHYcQ Although it is an acid it is not in the same class as Nitric etc. Washing off with plenty of water is enough for our purposes but make sure you avoid inhaling the vapour. Gloves, ...

I bought mine in France - was on the Bricolage (DIY) shelves among the wood treatments and was fairly inexpensive. Are the French less H&S sensitive? Worked well on my GP though the French instructions were not that easy to follow - the correct strength and plenty of time seemed to work. I found...

I like Ed's response. Not so sure about the youth bit though - I've seen plenty of youngsters around the wooden boats at club open days and they need to touch the varnish too. The vinyl is in the loft and I cannot find a wooden iPod anywhere! Now there's an idea for development - wooden laptop and m...

Responding to a post in another thread about cost of ownership/restoration/sailing I'll put in my tuppenceworth! At the dinghy show I heard more "I wish" expressions from the viewers of wooden boats than on any of the plastic boat stands! Sailors admire the beauty of wood - when did you la...

I'm asking for a second quiz - keep the difficult one as before but have a second "beginners" quiz for newcomers like myself. I'm sure others would welcome discovering whole new sailing discoveries as we search for answers. Just look at where the "cotton sails" thread takes you a...
