Re: What is it?

The sail insignia is Red Fox. Red Fox is a 20 foot 4 berth yacht with 2 asymmetric leeboard foils. The sail has clearly been reduced/re-cut.

Re: Osprey history

Well you guys seem to be somewhat dyslectic regarding numbers! "Ghost Rider" was S/N 2340 - 5th. in the hands of David Robinson at the '70 Champs at Pwllheli. Shame on you Dougal!

Re: Buying advice, please....

If you are considering buying a 12, or for that matter any restricted class dinghy, it is important to bear in mind where you will sail the boat and for example, all up crew weight. Gyphon is another "one-off", admittedly designed by Michael Jackson, a very successful 12 designer. Many of ...

Lots of 4-plank Dolls built and many Paper Darts are still about, Ed Willett has just completed a restoration of a Dart (N2679).

Re: Buying advice, please....

Only 2 boats built to this design - says it all. Stern tanks on this vintage can be a problem - take out and put in bags. Would look out for a China Doll or Cheshire Cat if you really want a 4 planker.

Re: A merlin project

There are some sails - main & jib - Terylene (blue) but in poor condition. She resides on trailer but would not be too happy about moving her any distance on it. Also bits of launch trolley. Location Great Chesterford.

Re: Wildcat Dinghy

There were 2 Wildcats at Hampton - late 50's. One was S/N 51. One of the characteristics was the square sectioned mast with brass track for mainsail sliders (a la Cadet).

Re: Crack in centre board case.

Not often I disagree with Rupert but on this occasion I do! If you put a brass tube through C/B case you will clearly need to enlarge hole you will also need to drift out tube when you need to remove C/B possibly damaging wood around the hole. I would suggest you get proper brass C/B bolt for a star...

Re: Jack Holt Rambler

220 was abandoned at Minima. The "Charms" were highly rated river boats (although pretty slippy at the Nationals too in the hands of Jack himself and Leslie Brain). The design was midway between the extremes of the banana boats and the more conservative Riant. Brian Appleton (Minima) was v...

Re: Sprog

As mentioned in previous comment a South African design. I remember we had a class event for them at Hampton SC regatta in late 50's. We had none at Hampton - think they may have come up from Twickenham SC.

Spud Rowsell used sycamore as the light wood "sandwich" in the gunnels of his wood Merlins.
