The sail logo of the El Toro is apparently a shovel..........it seems both this and the name were chosen because this was a "no bull****" boat!

In my little Dumpy Book of Dinghies from the 1950s, there is a French boat called the Highlander, with a dancing Scot as the sail logo. In the USA there is a boat called the El Toro, which sounds like a big butch bullish boat.............but it's actually a little kids' pram like an Oppie or a Sabot...

I learnt to sail in those, not long before they were phased out and replaced by the Bosun...........and my mum learnt to sail on them when she was a young WRN!

They didn't have buoyancy bags, just brass tanks under the thwarts which would barely keep them afloat when swamped.

I learnt to sail in 1972 and my first boat was a Sea Snark.......I used to go and press my nose against the window of the local chandlers which contained a GRP Topper for the price of £139 (funny how some things stick in your mind for ever!), so it was at least as far back as 1973.

I was only asking about Moth bits because I was going to the Netley boat jumble nearby yesterday and was going to look in, but I got all the bits I wanted for my current project at the jumble.

Looks like the cockpit floor of my last Moth which I also did too late in the day!

The trolley looks like a Magnum 5 or 6; too rounded for an 8.

One day the complete Moth hull shape history will be published..........and pigs will fly! Even the Magnum saga would take a while. Yours is a 5 IIRC, with quite a wide transom with turned-up short chines but with a finer midsection than the similar 3; the 6 has a narrower transom and usually a rudd...
