Re: Basket Case. magnum 9.9 international moth rebuild.

Well good luck to you, if you do look at any plywood ones look out for soft spots, and check the daggerboard casing well cos mine was shot..both add up to problems.. if you can get a carbon hulled boat get it.. it will save you money in the long run.. and when you get one give me a shout and i'll gi...

Re: Basket Case. magnum 9.9 international moth rebuild.

Amazing... serious eagle eyes! yes. I'm very interested in any history of the boat, as one of the last of the magnums and one of the first boats with carbon wings and rig I think she is quite a historic beast, also being plywood she is at the end of an era ..there can't be that many left, and judgin...

Re: Basket Case. magnum 9.9 international moth rebuild.

Well... what fun! As Ineed the practice I thought on sunday it was good to try the 5 gusting 6 situation again, I managed to make it on to the water this time with no breakages only to find that an alteration to my mast rake had made the boat unsailable, constantly sailing into the wind then constan...

Re: Basket Case. magnum 9.9 international moth rebuild.

So does a lowrider moth not count as a lost class? I am allowing various 'guests' at Hunts, including two wooden single floor phantoms. I think having the guest option is a good idea. I reckon!.. I think its obsolete and plywood nature definitely renders it a classic,I suppose so long as the handic...

Re: Basket Case. magnum 9.9 international moth rebuild.

ha yea.. figured that would be the case, however as I don't have a competitive bone in my body I wouldn't be to fussed about scoring.. just would be nice to sail with some other boats of a similar ilk. as mine is obsolete within its own class it kinda fits under the cvrda wing... at the mo I have bo...

Re: Basket Case. magnum 9.9 international moth rebuild.

well, this evening finally I went for a sail. I'd forgotton how stupid the launching process is, with the immediate inevitable multiple capsizes , having got myself sorted out I made my way out into the small amount of wind[ 2-3] to find that she sails beautifuly, she was an absolute joy, so smooth,...

Re: Basket Case. magnum 9.9 international moth rebuild.

Ha cheers.. to be honest after the rebuild it should all be pretty bullet proof, literally in the case of the hull and its carbon kevlar skin.. it really was the only bit of rope i haven't replaced, however the spreaders were looking a little shabby, 5 gusting 6 was pretty much the best sailing i ha...

Re: Basket Case. magnum 9.9 international moth rebuild.

well..That was pretty poor. got rigged, wind 5 gusting 6, really looking good, put it in the water , started to capsize it to finninsh rigging, forestay tension rope snapped, mast collapsed under boat breaking both spreaders.. k.o.. thankfully no other damage, that was the only bit of rope i havent ...

Re: Basket Case. magnum 9.9 international moth rebuild.

hi, cheers for the compliments.. rob, this one is a lowrider, built by john claridge in 92 or 93, one of the last plywood moths i think..certainly one of the last ones he built.. i reckon it is now 20 years old.. so it feels great to ressurect one of the final magnums for its birthday.. now its fini...
