Thanks for that Jim, must admit I hadn't thought about the melting problem.
I think I'll give it a go manualy, I'm sure with a combination of drill, saw, file & dremel I can arrive at something roughly round which will suffice for at least the short term.
Cheers

Re: OK Deck Mast Bearing
Took some measurements yesterday and the mast collar looked to be about 95-96mm diameter (hard to measure accurately) and so I guess a 100mm diameter hole will allow for a bit of clearance and mast rake. Has anyone any experience of this type of hole saw and know if they are up to cutting hard plast...

Re: OK Deck Mast Bearing
Also plenty of offcuts of most materials pretty cheap on eBay. Do you have a pattern & where are you based? Just been up to my local poundstretcher and and they have 6mm thick placcy chopping boards for £3.50 and so I guess 3 pieces of that glued & bolted together would do. I'm in Newbury a...

Re: OK Deck Mast Bearing
Easy to do with a pillar drill and a cheap hole saw. Just angle the bed plate appropriately and put some sacrificial wood underneath so you cut though all the way around. Otherwise it is possible to do it just with a hand drill. What material would you intend to use? Nylon? Nigel I was hoping to fi...

OK Deck Mast Bearing
Hi all Long shot but has anyone got a top bearing kicking about suitable for an old GRP OK dinghy. I've not sailed for 2 yrs owing to broken wooden boats which I've not got round fixing but I'm keen to get back on the water again. I have the chance of picking up an old GRP OK hull up fairly cheap bu...

Re: Finally Finished
Hi Nessa, according to a post on the 'Classic' part of the Phantom forum sail number 808 was first measured in the winter of 1978, so I was guessing that would make 499 around 1976, but I will make a post over there and see if I can find out more info. I think that there was a goodly number of Phant...

Finally Finished
Well it's taken me 2 years on & off (more off than on) but the restoration of Phantom 499 is pretty much finished. A few small issues such as leaky self bailers still to sort out but otherwise she's good to go. For those interested then pictures can be found by following the below link:- http://...

Re: Cheapest method of measuring 2 pack
To measure small amounts of expoy for small glueing & filling jobs I use the double ended plastic measuring spons you get with kids cough mixture (5ml one end - 2.5ml the other), though these are probably not much use for measuring 2 pack paint unles you need a minute quantity.

Re: A new forum
For me this the best sailing forum on the net!. I am not a good sailor and never will be having long ago resigned myself to the back of the fleet. However on this site that has never seemed to matter as the vibe has always seemed be one of 'all are welcome' unlike some other forums. My dumb question...

Re: Early Phantom on e-bay
Nessa, I already have 499 undergoing restoration. I don't realy need two phantoms but No 5 is hard to resist given the early sail number and the fact that it also looks a relatively easy fix if your not too bothered about re-decking straight away. I have some reservations about the masts on offer th...

Re: Mirror 16 on eBay
I really fancy one of these. One came up on ebay a few months back that was reasonably local to me, but at 16ft their just to big for my single garage which would make restoration a real pain. Lack of ventilation between hull and false floor means their prone to rot which is probably why few survive...

Re: Early Phantom on e-bay
Thought of having a punt for this myself providing the price doesn't get too silly. Only trouble is the boats in Kent and my current car is without towbar.
Phantoms on ebay seem to be like buses, you don't see one for ages then 4 come along all at once .

Re: Getting a decent paint finish?
I maybe should have titled my topic been 'Gettiing an average paint finish' as this is probably the best I can acheive. The photos of the shiny boats have not disheartened me, just put me in awe of what some people can do with a paint brush, but then I did ask didn't I. The Phantom has now had 2 coa...
