Not quite a Moth, but for vintage scow affecionados there's the Brigham Scow (http://uk.geocities.com/dinghydata/Brigham.htm). Brigham Sailing Club's web site is at http://my.sporthull.co.uk/default.asp?W ... geID=76696

There's a story in one of Proctor's books about a car rear-ending a Merlin on a trailer. The Merlin's mast foot went through the car's radiator, and when they got them untangled (with the car's fan stuck on the end of the mast), the driver apologised for bending the boat's propellor.

I wonder if there's a problem with the centreboard case and the extra thwart is there as support?

Maybe I've just been lucky, but for the last few years I've found a good blast with a hot air gun seems to clear most of the black, and careful application (ie using a small watercolour brush to hit the line of the grain) of Domestos at various dilutions does the rest. Seeing that Mike Golding needs...

I have a Northern Light (No 2572) bare hull available for free. Built by South Yorkshire boats in 1972. Needs work but fairly straightforward. I got it to sail against my 12, but hadn't thought about time spent fixing the Merlin being less time sailing the 12. Now have neither time nor space to do i...

Hmm; I would say it was worse than that. It got blown off it's trolley last year and lots of bits knocked off. But if you're that keen and that skilled, I guess anything can be rebuilt. If you're interested in the mast (otherwise it's just a bare hull with c/board still in), try contacting Hornsea M...

The old Rocket is still at Hornsea Mere (as of last night), but beyond any hope of salvage. There's a twin diamond wooden mast, although the top couple of feet have been roughly stuck back on with GRP.

Can't help with old style sails, I'm afraid (I've got a full set of 1958 Ratsey & Lapthornes with N1662, another R&L set with a cut down main, and a set of Storrar & Bax from a more modern 12 for everyday sailing). Try posting on the 12s discussion board at http://www.national12.org/blah...

Hmm, Most (if not all) Chippendale MkVIIIs had stern decks with built in bouyancy (like my N1662 - http://www.national12.org/class/MarkVIII.htm), most (if not all) Wyche & Coppock ones didn't. N1707 & N1722 are listed as Holt designs, and Holt did sell kits (see May 5th's Yachts & Yachti...
