Re: Bosham classics

I think anyone who criticises 2 digit handicaps is completely missing the point of classic dinghy racing.

Re: Bosham classics

Out of curiosity how many Bosham boats attend CVRDA events?

Re: A mast glueing question

I've never tried it but I'd definitely be tempted to put a line/lines in. I'd use some form of waxed line. I'm sure if you did that then moved it slightly from time to time during the curing process then it wouldn't stick.

I think you're best bet would be to approach the current builder (Hartleys).

Re: Is this a Heron?

There are Herons with stern decks but that's definitely a GP14.

Re: Toe in the water; I've got a blog

Sadly Rupert, as your experiments have shown, had the Minisail had a better rig it may have give the Laser a run for its money.

Boring fact: the first dinghy I ever sailed (in 1969 at sailing school) was a Minisail.

Sorry for the thread drift

Yep, I'd say this is the best option!
But what do you do once you've crossed the Equator? Keep heading for Antarctica or head back North?

Wood dust allergy can apparently be quite species-specific. Hope it clears up quickly.

Re: de-bodging an Osprey centreboard case - advice req'd

I don't think you'll need nails and epoxy as the epoxy bond will be stronger than the wood itself. I've only ever used it on smallish things but I've either just clamped the joint and left it or put in a few well-waxed stainless screws which I removed later.

It sounds like you've got a kicker lever there, perhaps a home-made one.

Re: Early Heron dating

The Heron was launched in 1951(originally as the 'Yachting World Car-top Dinghy') and I know that sail numbers had reached 2000 by 1959 so that's somewhere between 200 and 300 boats per year. If it's a professionally built boat, I'd say 1953 at the absolute latest. If it's an amateur built boat it m...

Remember it's 1:1 by volume not weight. Colloidal silica weighs virtually nothing.
