There is a picture at http://www.nickprice.org.uk/diabolo1007b.jpg I have only sailed it once in a good wind on November 10th and managed to get into a death roll and capsize! I was paying too much attention to the kicker tension to try and get the batten to flick over and not enough to sailing, so ...

Thanks Garry. I've spoken to Mike who was a member of Ranelagh in the distant past. I believe he started his sailmaking on the Club floor! Have to see how I get on with the rig now. Lined up a small spinnaker and short pole so should get there eventually.

Early boats had diamonds but if spreaders were fitted would they be necessary? The mast luff slot would end quite high up the mast but should be fix...

I've found a wooden boom and mast from a Solo. The mast is about a foot shorter than the ali deck stepped mast on the boat now. Would it be an option to get a bit scarfed on to the bottom? Has anyone tried this?

Gary,
Were the halyards internal or external on the early wooden masts?
Thanks,

Thanks Gary,
Just spoke to Mike who did have two but sold one and is keeping the other for Flinkidink. He may also have a lead on cotton sails.

Vintage Merlin Diabolo

I am very happy to have recently purchased Merlin 214 which is in excellent condition. It has been fitted with a deck stepped aluminium mast (+boom) and has dacron sails also in very good condition. As an historic boat which won the Merlin National Championships in 1953 should I be looking to find a...

Just posted some old N12 photos, dated from the early 60's. We have an open meeting this coming Sunday, 21st January and any old 12's would be most welcome. Start at 14.30, very high tide so park away from the hard if you're coming! Club will be open from 12.30 with free tea and biscuits. Food and b...

Very interesting and I suspect it applies to many clubs as well. If people don't put something back into their sport, it's a fine line between success and failure.

Well, the good people at Jeckells Sails suggest it is a "Dragonfly" made around 1966. Anyone have any experience with these?
