Re: Lee shore.

Yes, Kev's spot on for any boat with a foresail......I'm always landing on a lee shore when I come home in our GP as well, usually single handed.......I heave to (backed jib, helm to leeward) drop the main and come in under jib (or bare poles....I don't always use the jib when solo). Backing on wor...

Free GP eligible for Classic Racing

Spotted this one on the GP association site. A sound CRVDA and GP Assoc Vintage events eligible boat, complete with wood spars, free.

Ideal boat for newcomer, family sailing and a bit of classic racing.... Cant fault it.

Re: Lee shore.

If you can release the sail the do so and drift in on bare poles. If not, lie to across the wind and again drift in sideways. I agree with Kev about the double handed method: you need to drop the main and come in under jib alone. It's no good sending the crew over the side if they can't touch botto...

Re: Lee shore.

Nice little vid. Not sure how I come back in cat rig, bare poles?. On my GP I'd drop the main and come on the Jib, let it fly for the last run in. If it started going wrong id pull it in, close reach on jib alone, go back out.

Not sure how to get it to me though. If courier isn't bad, it's an option.

Re: OK

Must admit I fancy one, ever since I saw bill Sylvester sailing his at NSC. Lovely looking boat. Not sure hie suitable for the Mersey,s special version of wind against tide.... Best of luck to the class though, every time I come across some bit I make sure they get sold right back into circulation. ...

Re: What wood to use?????

Well technically you can use anything that you get in the correct size that will bend to fit, but the best thing to use would be what was originally used ,which which will likely be a South American mahogany. Problem is its no longer available, so best to use an African mahogony. Take care, as so mu...

Re: Graduate?

Yes, Grads, like Fireflies, are nice singlehanded, especially the satisfaction of getting a really good tack in with minimal jib flapping. Ref the new sail not pointing as high - is this a known class thing, or just what you found? It wouldn't surprise me if the new main would involve a whole new t...
