Re: Daring dinghy

Much more racy than the GP. Not sure what it was competing against directly, but was up against plenty of 14 foot racing dinghies. Pocket Rocket has always been a tricky place to be. Maybe a trapeze on a small boat makes for a poor light wind performance compared to sitting out boats, or maybe areas...

Re: Daring dinghy

It is a shame, and had I a big shed to keep a Daring in, I'd have braved the long drive, as I think C and I would have great fun in her. As it is, my garage barely fits a Firefly. Another reason why people buy what they do, I guess. Mind, if I still had that big shed, I'd have several other wooden b...

Re: Daring dinghy

The trouble is, not many think in terms of the classic boat narrative when buying a boat. We buy one we like, or fits overall budget, or suits the sailing we want to do, or happens to be in a neighbour's garden. Or the stars align and all of the above come true.

Re: 2018 events

David, I suppose what I was trying to say is that sailing is a participation sport, not a spectator one. I know I would have a wonderful time seeing all the boats, but I doubt I'd travel down unless sailing was involved too. I'd rather go sailing in less exalted company. I own 2 Proctor boats, and h...

Re: 2018 events

I hope the Topper will get pride of place. So, is this a "one of a kind" event, then? Nice for the photos, but can't see widespread appeal to owners of proctor designs. I'd be happy to come and sail Minisail 1, but actually, it would be more fun to come and race the boats as they were inte...

Re: Finn nationals

Over the last couple of decades in the cvrda, we have regularly seen tatty boats sailed on a shoestring, boats beautifully restored to how they were when built, or even an idealised version of this, boats brought up to modern class racing spec, using carbon if allowed, and all these boats have had o...

Re: Centreboard case not true

Trying it loses you little. If it works, you'll be able to fit the board. If not, you'll need to build the new case you'd have had to build as Chalky suggests, and get a true fit. Pretty sure most of us will have had this problem at some point. Even if you measure top and bottom, you can then find i...

Re: TV series coming soon

I'm not sure that the average person interested in dinghies and Sailing in general sees the racing version of a sailing canoe as that different to a performance dinghy. Certainly they both take part in handicap racing using the same rules. Personally, I'm glad that the IC wants to keep separate, and...

Re: TV series coming soon

The story of what happened to sailing canoes in the USA is one that windsurfing should have read 100 years later.

Re: GP 14 centreboard

GP board found. In pretty good nick, varnished mahogany, would need a friction device, could be used as is, but maybe better fettled a little first.

Guvnah, I shall dig it out in daylight, first to check I can find it, second to check condition.

Re: Flying Fish????

Seem to remember the Flying Fish was a sailing surfboard.

Don't know what the boat named Flying Fish is, but looks quite nice, though the rig does look bodged.
