Hi David, I could not tell if it was a low trapeze point or just some mini stays for the mast. The line drawing shows the stays with a particularly solid stay to the bow. I guess it would make sense for a trapeze wire to come from the same point. The aft sections look decked with a very high chine. ...

Hi David, I have a blurry picture and a line drawing of the SS. It is dificult to say for sure but it does not look overly aft biased. trapeze ring starts just in front of the mast and extends back maybe 4-5 ft. Not sure exactly how it fits together (Maybe the diagram came from IKEA!). Not clear if ...

I understand that it also had an epoxy/glass mast with a streamlined 10in x 2.6in profile. It sounded years ahead of its time and totally wierd. A potently attractive mix - fascinating and something worth tracking down :).

Hi all,

the bulbous nosed hoopy trapeze one with a windsurfer rig designed by R. R. A. Bratt was the one I meant. Last seen in Dorchester I believe. However finding one might be easy compared to agreeing a portsmouth handicap number for it :).

Hi David, my old books have the Phantom at 93 but if I take the modern number of 1051 back through my converter, it produces 92. I guess the real proof is as you say to measure it on the water. Looking forward to seeing it. Life has conspired against my making any of the events this year but fingers...

Bronze centreboard? Probably the first step is to buy a landrover to get it back up the slip.

If it had to make sense, this organisation would not exist :).

Hi all, having dug out my handicap spreadsheet (see the "to stain..." thread) i noticed that Finns today seem relatively slower than they used to be a few years ago. Today's new money handicap equates to about 94 in old money. Are they getting slower or is everyone else getting faster? Nigel

Hi All, Re the handicap for the Unit, I put an Excel spreadsheet together a while ago to predict new money handicaps for old money boats. It is based on a range of boats that I had both old and new numbers for and excludes outliers (e.g development clsses like Int Moths)and picks up the equation fro...

The Harrier also ships huge amounts of water from a capsize. I was thinking of putting some buoyancy bags in - not for the buoyancy but to displace that amount of water and save me some bailing.

Hi Trevor, I have one. My one(small)page of information did not indicate they were ever made in wood though. I can send you a scan if you wish. My GRP one is great fun in a blow and really flies on a run. Very stable because of the low centre of effort. I took mine out in gusting force 6s in a club ...

Hi guys, I have just come into possession of a Beachcomber (£40 well spent :)) - a 13ft Lateen rigged single hander. Coincidentally, another one has just appeared on ebay! Does anybody any experience of them? I think I have all the bits but have yet to work out how to put it all together. Best Rega...

Hi guys, I think I read that Bell went bust having only made a few prototypes. Also found an alleged handicap of 1007 (new money). If that is accurate, it probably has more than enough canvas for me :). Nice to see unusual boats still in use though. It would be an interesting project to trace the de...
