Re: Early Heron

I messaged him to ask why. He says she has "major structural problems and will need lots of work, to much for me"

I thought she was really sound TBH , so who knows. Looking at ebay he has made a small profit already, no mention of any issues in his listing .

Flo wants to sell her 302, I did a lot of jobs on it when she first got it, its in good order throughout now.

Its got the full size sail ,plus the smaller junior rig and the asymmetric kite, had a new cover last year. sails off the same PY as a topper.

£275 . located cotswold water park.

Early Heron

I am losing my indoor storage so............... The Heron is for sale, Number 17 all original and very sound woodwork.

I have fixed the rudder while in my care, it now needs some new ropes and a couple of repairs to the buoyancy bags.

Re: Heron centerboard case leak

My reasoning being that: I need buoyancy but also dry storage when we go on overnight camping trips. I had considered those plastic screw top barrels lashed under the side benches also. What I would prefer not to do is alter the boat to much, as its an early one and very original, so would like to m...

Re: Heron centerboard case leak

I have been considering fitting a bulkhead at the front with big hatches in ,so it could double as storage BUT the purist in me says its just wrong on a 1952 ! . The jury is still out on this. I have also thought of building a ply buoyancy/storage, tank/box that would replace the rear bag that fits ...

Re: Removing brass stews from keel?

I have been working on the Herons rudder and this happened. I used a small burr in the dremel to grind off the bit of head that was left, then used the roll pin trick. It takes time and care not to damage anything, the dremel and fein are great tools and I would not be without mine now and can be pu...

Re: To tape or not to tape, that is the question...

I have no experience of moth repair, but b has worked for me on another plywood boat. I mixed up a batch of epoxy and painted/wetted out the effected area, poured some off into another pot and thickened up, splogded (tech term  ) this mix into the gap between sheets, then used the last of the ...

Re: Removing brass stews from keel?

I have read that cutting/filing a v in the roll pin to act as a "saw tooth" is effective. Anyone know if this is the case ?.

Re: Heron centerboard case leak

Thanks , thats really helpful advice :D . This is the next job to tackle. I am working on the rudder at present, made a brass bush and epoxied it into the rudder where the big elongated hole was in the wood. Have Roughly Cut out and planed up a new oak tiller extension today, hope to get that ...
