Re: Mermaid

There were at least three Mermaid dinghies. One was an Irish design by John Kearney, begun in 1933, and was clinker built. A second one was usually called the Mermaid 14, and was a Roger Hancock design. I can't date it earlier than late 60's. One little twist. Though only 14ft long it had a little d...

Re: New project wanted

David

There is a very nice elderly Int Canoe I have my eye on, currently in the rafters of a garage on the Wirral. I've know about it for years, but haven't had the motivation to go for it until now. Book-wise, fame at last, eh?

Re: New project wanted

Hi. I need to make space, but not sure how much of a project you want. My McCutcheon Int 14 - 839, single trap, is available free of charge, and comes with very good main and genoa, harness etc, and with or without a combi. That's too good to be free though, but £100 will cover it. Can deliver from ...

Head and shoulders above all the rest is Eric Twiname "Start to Win". No contest.

My favourite was "Clifton Flasher". Something about the name I think....

Re: Reproofing boat cover

Thompsons Water Seal, from Wickes, is a good product. Comes in various size cans, and is easy to apply.

Re: Something a little different

I don't remember it having a PY, but it must have been given one, because we used to sail it in impromptu races at the sailing club in North Wales that we belonged to. I do recall that it easily beat Herons, Graduates and similar boat for boat, and was competitive against GP's and Ents. Only problem...

Re: Something a little different

Yep. Similar but not quite the same. The boat in the U-tube section is a tender, whereas the ebay one is about two feet longer and was a proper sailing dinghy.

Re: Something a little different

It's not by Jeckells, it's a Prout folding dinghy, though the sail may have been by Jeckells. We had one back in the 50's. Actually it was remarkably quick, and my dad changed the rig to include a jib, which I seem to remember was not part of the original package. Weighing very little, but a very go...

Re: Vintage 14 wanted

Katie, Not sure how much restoration you want to do, or how old you want your '14' to be, but Janine - 839 - recently at BB is available. Don't have any piccies handy I'm afraid, but if you look at edm post on this site under the string for "Events", "Nationals 2012", page 8, you...

Re: Nationals 2012.

Thank you Rupert, we hope to be back soon. Thanks also for the report in Y&Y, though I thought being the only boat to actually compete in the Saturday race (and stay upright) might have been worth a mention.

Regards

Re: Nationals 2012.

..........but I hope there will be some sailing activity on the Saturday. Like Jim, I can only do two days, Saturday and Sunday, and much as I like everybody's company I don't want to be there on the Saturday if we are sat on the shore all day.

Re: halliards

I agree with Rupert. This arguement has been going on in the Solo class for years. Proponents of wire say it doesn't stretch, always goes to the same spot when hoisting, etc. But modern rope, though it stretches a little, has many other advantages. If you pull down on the cunningham after hoisting t...
