Forfar SC

My club Forfar Sailing Club to my surprise have shown an interest in putting on a Classic and Vintage event. I know this is rather a long way north for most of you but is there anybody interested in coming along either reasonably local or prepared to travel up as part of a longer holiday or somethin...

Re: Varnishing questions

I found the surf wax work ok, the only problem was that it needed replacing before everytime I went out or I started falling over and it did not stick very well to anything wet, which it usually was. The main problem was that it did not look very nice. I will probably continue to use it on my moth a...

Re: Varnishing questions

I have used surf wax. Found it tended to wash off quickly where I wanted it and didn't where I didn't and quickly looks unsightly. Took me hours when I wanted to remove everything to repaint.

Re: international moth tiller extensions

I tried electical conduting on my national 12 and found it a bit flexible in waves so I tried putting about 18" of ali tube inside it and this stiffened it up just enough but I could still sit on it with out putting a bend in it. All the ali tiller extensions I used in Agent Orange ended up lik...

Re: National 12

Hi Matt Have you looked at the NAtional 12 web site, you will find some useful information there. If you are on a light budget I would be warey of a clinker built 12 either glued ply or traditional nailed as they tend to be an awful drain on cash just keeping them on the water. You also tend to get ...

Wanted lifting rudder for Merlin Rocket

I need a lifting rudder for a 1980s Merlin Rocket, I have found my fixed rudder just a bit too deep for my pond resulting in some embarrassing situations. I am not looking for anything fancy but needs to be fairly cheap.

Mini Sprint Handicap

I have recently aquired a mini sprint (mk2 I think) can any body suggest a reasonable handicap for it for normal club sailing. I have yet to see the boat and have to work out some excuse for making the long trip down to Cheshire, and on return I will say 'Honey I'm home.......look what ive found' or...

Oh Dear

Woops, having been told to curtail my travelling to save money I had a few moments to spare rather than getting my boat ready to go somewhere, so I had a quick look on ebay a quick slip of the keyboard and oh no I seem to be the owner of a minisprint......Now I will have to go and get it. Hardest bi...

Re: National 12 Mast lengths

Steve it sounds like your new mast has come off a double bottomed boat for there to be so much difference in mast length. A mast from a later single bottomed boat might be a few inches shorter but not so much to make it un useable with out extending.

Re: Enterprise sail advice please

Many moons ago as a school boy with an equally light crew we used to sail an enertprise with a full sized jib and what we called a cruising main (havn't a clue how big it was) in anything more than a light breeze. Found she handled better like this rather than using small jib. Used to annoy people o...
