Re: Handicap Racing

Ah yes, the fame and glory. Settles into armchair, puffs on pipe and looks at expectant faces of sailors at his feet     Rupert, David is right that some committee posts are advertised but some such as the PY committee tend to be invites because the committee is very small. Trust...

Re: Handicap Racing

Hi Rupert, I think the answer is being in the wrong place at the wrong time! :) :) :) Basically I have spent the last 20 odd years doing a great deal of professional measuring and rule writing for what now amounts to some 50+classes. I am an International Measurer and International Judge and have al...

Re: Handicap Racing

I have to agree with David on this one. PY is indeed not perfect but considering the complexities it does a very good job. The problems lie with the human condition that it is always someones fault other than the sailor! It is a data based system but trying to get clubs to send back meaningful data ...

Re: hornet on ebay with story

Don't tell them Just let me know and I will be there. I promise to let you steer! 2047 looks good at the reserve price if you want a sorted boat with new gear and a combi but the buy now is a bit over the top. Inter club team racing was a big thing at one time. There are several Hornet trophies in t...

Re: Dinghy and Smallcraft review

I bought one for the collection. Pretty comprehensive at 352 pages. Yes it is like the old dinghy yearbook, but I didn't like all the biased quotes and news from manufacturers which sees to cheapen it. A few errors but there is the invite to contribute for the next issue so maybe this will be someth...

Re: Pisces Singlehander

This is starting to sound like a very interesting meeting and one definitely worth the camera recording. Almost a recreating of the One of a Kind events. We need to find a Bonito,a Sea Bat an Minisail and a few others and this could be really good.

Re: Pisces Singlehander

Ah Thank you Homes, recognized at last. I fear that you are correct in that much has been lost on the RMD front. I believe he moved the the Channel Islands but he has been gone a long while and I suspect that most of his work was not kept. However, I will talk to Reg and others and see what contacts...

Re: hornet on ebay with story

Best main I ever had on my Hornet was the fully battened. Only down side was not being able to get rid of the power. In a back to back rave everyone else say there having lunch and we would be planing up and down. We never really mastered it so I should have stuck with it really. Sadly I don't have ...

Re: A Living Museum

AG is right, it would be a museum to rival some of those abroad and certainly since the war the dinghy world has led innovation. The best place would be on an inland water for safe sailing - perhaps Oulton!

Re: Historical accuracy

Hi Ed, I wish I could share your confidence with the NMMC. However, I have seen nothing but disappointment. I agree that they need income but even after a visit with a very successful businessman and sailor they were not interested in any advice offered. You are correct in that the National Small Bo...

Re: Which Singlehander?

Perhaps it's not the start that counts but the ashore. If you are entering a race then it should be given 100% commitment to trying to win (even if in the deepest part of your heart you know you won't) and of course all the sailing rules to ensure that everyone is fair. At least trying 100% is the w...

Re: IC 41

Hi Ed,

The book is available should anyone want one, from me, the publisher (Bosun Books) or ordered through any bookshop.

I am certain I will have more photos. I have several hundred to slowly sort through and scan but it will get done eventually.....
