Re: Int 14 on the bay.

Interesting. Seller states hull is 988 but the Int.14 book states - not built!

Re: Gel coat.

My God! 40 W or D would almost completely remove gel coat. You should start with 400 grade and progress through finer grades finishing off with a rubbing compound. Use plenty of water with perhaps a dash of washing up liquid added.

Re: wood glue types

West epoxy every time (no experience of SP systems but expect similar). It is expensive but the strength of it really is amazing. I have but jointed pieces of mahogany and it is just like a "continuous" plank when set. The right environmental conditions are however very important when usin...

Re: Dulux exterior gloss?

Yes, good quality household paint is excellent, I have used it on numerous boats. I have recently used Johnstones (Est. 1890) Weatherguard "6 year" exterior gloss (cheaper than Dulux) and can recommend it. However limited range of colours.

Re: A Smart built NSM on ebay

Yes David, I do have pictures of "Chrysalis". However they are proper photos, the kind you used to hand round and bore friends and relations who visited and had no interest in sailing!
Will contact you to arrange.

Re: A Smart built NSM on ebay

David - felt I had to chip in as "Hooligan" came up. I owned 2941 "Chrysalis" a "Hooligan - WT special" ex. Chris & Liz Wilkinson (note the play on names) and as a lightweight found her a nice boat to sail but a real devil to quick tack. I owned her for about 4 year...

Re: A real rowing boat.

Hi Ed, Started rowing at school (Tiffin) then Kingston RC and finally Bedford. Was in Elite squad in 60's & 70's mainly Thames Cup VIII and Wyfold IV's. Then went on to row in Veteran events taking part in National & World Championships. Finally arthritis caught up with me and I now just off...

Re: A real rowing boat.

I am a member of Bedford RC (ex. Elite squad)-- unfortunately this scull has been not well looked after. Had it been properly stored in boathouse it would have remained in good condition. The riggers pattern indicate they are not contempory with the scull and seem to be missing the gates swivels. Ge...

Re: A real rowing boat.

Must order some specs. for Christmas! On closer examination the original "fixed pins" are clearly in place.

Re: A real rowing boat.

If I remember correctly these were called a Wiff. Like Michael I rowed in one of these at school in Kingston before moving on to a "shell" although we did have sliding seats. The boat would originally have had "fixed pins" at the end of the riggers and "swivel gates" ha...

Re: Merlin Rocket 1200 Restoration

1200 was built in 1960 and owner finished from a Wyche & Coppock hull and my 1961 year book shows her named "Nor" and based at Thames SC. By 1972 she had moved up river to Walton-on-Thames. A move to Stevenage took place in 1976 but no club given. Another change in owner in 1985 and a ...

Re: Merlin Rocket 1200 Restoration

She looks to be in pretty good nick. Decks look good but photos can be deceiving. Unusal to see centre mainsheet on a Mk 12 she would originally have had transom sheeting. A Mk.12 can be a good boat especially on restricted water. Let me know the number & I will look through my M/R yearbooks to ...
