Re: Insect control.

Ian, It was certainly not my intention to bring any controversy to the forum or start a 'my boat has been established longer than yours has' type competition. As Alan pointed out I have owned both British and International Moths in my younger leaner days and am fully aware of their history and devel...

Insect control.

I have not been on the forum for a while and thought I was on the wrong one. there seems to be a huge influx of a certain modern boat maybe its the weather bringing them out but a dose of DDT may put things right.

Re: wood for a traveller bar

If you look closely you can see the 2271 track is not drilled but uses a clever internal fastener system that does not need holes drilled at all.

Re: wood for a traveller bar

Do you really need to have a curved support for you mainsheet track? When I refitted the FD Superdocious we used Harken HiBeam Track 2271 which can be bent to your requirements by them and is secured at either deck, backed up by one or two threaded bar pillars which can be secured to the floor. This...

Re: Winter blues

Don't knock it until you've tried it, and be warned model yacht racing is addictive, I made the fatal mistake of going along to watch Alan racing and I was lent a boat to have a go, which went on for three races, I am now having the finishing touches put to my own IOM. It is not the same as dinghy r...

Re: Classic, wooden Finn

This is a nice find indeed as it is a Fairey boat finished by Wootens built in 1956 with only on owner listed, I would be grateful if you could let me have the current owners details so that I can update the records and ensure its number is retained.

Re: Classic, wooden Finn

Some of us have been talking with sailmakers with regard to making sails for classic Finns and usually most will have a go, however, it is a complex sail and unless they have experience with them I would advise to steer clear. There are a couple of lofts we have been talking to who will hopefully be...

Fairey Finn 130

They say you do not see one for ages then they come along in pairs, so here goes. I have had this one for a few months now and really need to get working on my other boat so the garage where it is sitting needs to be used. This boat has had only one owner from new and was laid up at least thirty yea...

Re: Roland Europe

Look on the Classic Finn website www.classicfinn.org.uk and you will find a useful amount of info in the Finn Sailing Manual and Tuning Guide. When the boat is set up correctly the rig does all the work for you, for example in a blow when going to windward you sheet the main in hard with the travell...
