Twisting/bending 6mm plywood
The thread title says it all really.......... In my Int. Moth days I found little trouble in getting 3mm and 4mm ply to take the shape I wanted, but 6mm is a different animal; I need to get a twist into the forward end of a bottom panel and I'm not forcing it down over a mould so can't do it in stag...

Yes thanks - definitely a Dragon. Only the designer, Sean Cox, knows the differences between Mks. 1, 2 and 3.......

Re: novice seller International moth mk III
Definitely appears to be a Skol III - the Skol I was narrower and not self-draining, the Skol II had the same hull shape as Skol I but s/d and with a stern tank, as seen in other pics on this forum. It must have been one of the last built - it doesn't appear in the lists in the 1975 yearbook, but th...

Re: Int Moth 3848
Yes, that is a Mistral (although I don't know what defines a Mistral 2), but neither her sail number nor the boat name 'Red Admiral' can be found in the 1973 or 1975 yearbooks.................which makes me think you were not a CA member. I believe David H has contacted Tony Hibbert who was t...

Re: Int Moth 3848
OK, I've made a start. After the initial list compiled by Belinda Swain and printed in Nov. 1993, in the following newsletter she said she'd been through the numbers up to K3206, and that the batches 2400-2500 and 2700-2800 hadn't been allocated. The first number on the list was 2639 and the last nu...

Re: Int Moth 3848
Back in 1993 Belinda Swain, who has been mentioned on the thread about Moth designs, was newsletter editor or something like that and started compiling a register of boats - it was printed in a newsletter, and though incomplete, and sometimes wrong (I owned K-3765 and it was a Phobia, not a Magnum!)...

Re: Int Moth 3848
If it has low freeboard, totally triangular on plan, with all the rocker forward of the mast, quite hard bilges and plumb topsides and a bulbous bow, built in GRP and with shrouds to the wings and understays................. then it's a Dragon - I don't know the difference between the versions but t...

Re: Int Moth
This boat is from my era in Moths......... The Moth website has unfortunately gone all modern and blog-style, and the links to the archive pages no longer work, which is a pain since I went to a lot of trouble to scan and send my photos, and provided info on a lot of others. Anyway, this boat for sa...

The sail logo looks like some sort of insect, a mosquito or dragonfly or nymph.

The Moth one is a Banks semi-soft from 1972, looks unused but they weren't much good then IIRC compared to a fully-battened Tratman.

Re: Bosham Classic Boat Revival update
Nick Gates who did the 'Getting Afloat' series on TV a few years ago still had the Sharpie he restored on the prog last time I walked past his yard at Prinsted; has he ever sailed in the CBR event? When I were a lad there were two main Sharpie fleets in the UK, one in north Norfolk and the other at ...

Re: Calling all Moth and scow addicts.........
Digging up old threads...........my cuttings etc about Moths have the Skols being designed by one Peter Weir. No, it wasn't as fast in light airs as the Duflos, but it was a lot easier to sail; and it was of an earlier generation than the "supernarrow seaskiff" (!) Poacher of 1973, more co...

Re: parts for moth sailing dinghy
Just found this thread - cathy20, if the hull of the Int. Moth matches the sail, e.g. it has the number 3660 carved into the hull somewhere near the port side of the transom, then it is a Magnum 3 whose first owner was Richard Hargreaves and which came 2nd in the 1977 Worlds at Hayling. Does it have...

Re: Early Int. Moth info.
While Dave Iszatt's 1980 worlds win didn't cause an immediate switch to skiffs, it was the first worlds where there was a mix of conditions AND a good number of top sailors from both hemispheres; previously there had always been a preponderence of scows in Pacific champs and skiffs in European ones....
