I think evo stik glue remover is acetone based. Sail number adhesive is probably spirit based, so white spirit would remove it.

Starbright sail and canvas cleaner; does what it says on the tin.

(presumably it only removes the residue, not the number!)

beware; my back was stiff and not moving or flexible, lifetime of heavy lifting etc. Chiropractor sucessfully freed it all up. Great! except now I suffer loads of pain and loss of feeling in my back, knees, legs and feet.

I use a fine orbit (3mm) random orbital sander and down to 240/320 grit. You can finish with a hard sanding block, velcro, and fine paper along the grain. Thinned varnish, no contest. Epifanes do a flow enhancer (Robbins don't stock it) which is excellent for the top coats rather than introducing more thinners.

I've seen excellent results on grp and metal and cleaning up structural timber in buildings.

yep; just removed 'doubleclick' which may not damage your system but is perfectly capable of gathering your personal info and sending it to someone you don't know!!!
