Advice on mastic

I have a grp Finn, it has hard wood capping to the gunwhales which are screwed in place on a bed of black mastic. The mastic is now hard, brittle and falling out so needs to be replaced. The mastic fills the gap between the bottom of the wood and the hull, is 6mm thick and obviously was used to seal...

Re: Classic wooden solo mast and boom plus sails to match

Whereabouts are you, I currently have a wooden mast decorating the rafters in the garage but would consider another if no-one else jumps in.

How about a FAQ section?

During the recent bad weather I have been filling some of my spare time reading through this section. There is an enormous amount of excellent material in here and I have learnt a lot but some of the true gems of information are difficult to find and in danger of being overlooked as they are hidden ...

Re: Getting the centreboard back in

And the answer is a combination of measuring the depth of the hole, inside, from the top of the box using a steel rule. A cramp to set the depth on the board handle, a marker pen to mark the board to aid aiming, sliding it in on the marked line and the trusty screwdriver for perfecting the alignment...

Re: Old Solos

I will be very interested in how this works out as I will soon be the proud owner of Solo 335.
As far as I am aware 335 is totally original, down to the cotton sail and wooden mast.

Re: Getting the centreboard back in

The centreboard I have to fit is a perfect sliding fit, anything thicker than cotton and I am sure that it would bind and break.

Edit to add, thanks for the warning but sitting at the computer also seems to add to the boat collection, is nowhere safe.

Getting the centreboard back in

Is there an easy way to get a centreboard back in. Obviously if you are going to put the same centreboard back in it pays to mark both the board and boat before removal so that it is relatively easy to line up the bolt hole. How do you line it up if you didn't mark it or you are putting in a differe...

Re: Challenge sailing dinghy

There might be a confusion with your Challenge dinghy, there is also a Challenger (note final R ) dinghy that has a sail emblem of CH. and a yardstick 0f 120. This is a 11"0' gunter rigged dinghy made of GRP, apparently available in mid blue or oxford blue, I know no more as I just found those ...

Go on, we would all like it to go to a good home with other moths for company.

What is a flock of moths called?
