Re: Paint stripping
If you put a big tarpaulin down first, as long as it takes to pull the 4 corners together and feed the sand into the dustbin. In California where I live they will only let you do that, if the sand has only made one pass through the gun. If you run the sand through a sifter to get the paint flakes ou...

Re: Epoxy - how do I get it off?
The best way I have found to use it is to apply the acid then cover it with several layers of paper towel. Formic acid also works on epoxy and used to be available as aerolite hardener if aerolite glue is still around. They have pretty well banned the stuff in the USA A large number of the propriety...

Re: Paint stripping
Be very careful sand blasting paint off Gel coat, If you get too enthusiastic you can blow through the gel coat into the fibreglass underneath. ( guess how I know?) Use the gun at a low angle to the work surface, so the sand shears the paint off, resist the temptation to lift the gun to a steeper an...

Re: Epoxy - how do I get it off?
Glacial Acetic acid will break down the bonds in epoxy and enable you to scrub it off.
I do not know what it does to the wood, and it is hard on the fingers, test in a small area first, and it takes overnight to work.

sails
A friend of mine has just handed me a Genoa jib for a cruiser he would like me to sell. The sail appears to be well made, however it is made by a company I am not familiar with. The maker is the A team ,from some where in eastern England, does anybody know about this sail loft, and can give me a ref...

To answer your question about a source for Tufnol in the US, here is a link to my local supplier, they are in San Diego Ca. http://www.sdplastics.com/plasmap.html The thing here is asking the right question. Tufnol is a brand name, what you are looking for is Phenolic resin plastic, cloth reinforced...

Re: The other side of the pond,Again.
Well, I was in the UK until Tuesday, Time flew by without me getting things done. Sorry I did not contact any of you. I had intended to go to my old sailing club TCSC on Saturday, however nature had other plans. It sluiced down all day Saturday, and on Sunday the wind started. I had a very interesti...

Re: The other side of the pond,Again.
Well in answer to the questions, there is nothing like CVRDA in the USA although I would not mind starting a chapter of CRVDA in the US. If there was, enough, interest. One of the Daunting aspects is the sheer size of this country. The state I am living in now can quite comfortably contain the whole...

Part of the fun of racing in San Diego is finding that Dennis St. Onge was on hand to take photos. His "boat" wasn't there this time, but he took pictures from shore. Dennis St Onge is the "Beken" of San Diego Look up http://www.da-woody.com and click on "photo gallery"...

Re: Uffa Fox Airbourne Lifeboats
My uncle, The late "Bob Armstrong" used to race these airborne lifeboats from the late 1940s to the early 60s when he traded his current boat in for an Albacore. He raced at Pembroke dock in wales and at Plymouth and of course various away venues across southern England. He bought and trad...

Are you sure you know who is making your sails ?
An article appeared in this months Professional Boat builder about sails which might open a few eyes. It at least makes one ask who is really making your sails?
I am adding a link to the article which appears on page 156.

Bilge pump
If you invest in an automatic bilge pump it will only operate when there is water in the bilge. Here is a link to a company that sells them in the UK http://www.piplers.co.uk/product_details.asp?intDescID=2686&Manufacturer=Rule&Code= Using a 12 v 17 ampere hour battery you should get 3 or 4 ...
