Nice YouTube video on the Brigham scows has just popped up.
Contributor dates the film back to the 1970's.

Re: Competition time
My Classic Moth #105 is a Maser.... a Laser that has been chopped up to fit the Classic Moth rule. Two fellows from Virginia perfected the chop and glass technique. With a wood deck the Maser weighs approx 40 lbs. less than a stock Laser. Haven't splashed the Maser yet this year, maybe this weekend.

Mr. Grufshag? Great YouTube contribution! As the Youtube author, may I suggest you add tags so the Youtube search engine will pop up your video when certain key words are entered. Just go to your YouTube account and edit your video... I suggest adding the following tags for a start; scow, YW, boatbu...

International Canoe YouTube slideshow
For the International Canoe sailors that frequent this site; pictures of International Canoes from the 1980's and 1990's. Though these IC's are technically not "Classic" in the CVRDA sense, they are "Classic" within the IC class; now that there is the present day emergence of bot...

Log canoe racing
Another YouTube slideshow of the local Log Canoes. Some of these canoes (if you want to categorize them as canoes) are close to 100 years old. Racing is fast and furious. It has an air of the America's Cup when you see the canoes towed out to the start line with everyone in the same color kit. Of co...

Got to use my classic I14 pics
Another YouTube slideshow.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ureNnXe1WZQ
I started in the pre-trapeze I14's when I was 13 years old (that should date me).
Still have a soft spot for the classics though most have them have seemed to disappeared in North America.

YouTube slideshows
Having a great deal of fun making YouTube slideshows. Great way to put some of the sailing images on my computer to some use. Lots of shots of wooden racing dinghies. Two new slideshows; one of my favorite class, the Classic Moth ... their E-City Nationals 2006 and another slideshow of those wild 10...

Classic Moth YouTube slideshow
No Skol's in this one but plenty of photo's of the current fast Classic, the 60's Mistral Moth design, as well as some Europes modified to the Classic rule. Pictures from the USA 2007 Midwinters in Florida.

Does the U.S have smaller scows?
David H posed the question whether the popularity of scows in the U.S has translated to successful smaller sized U.S scow classes. Not really. Ironically iEngland has the most scows of any country; the ubiquitous one class Topper trumps the U.S with their more diverse, larger sized but smaller numbe...

Back to the original question
The question at the top of the this thread seemed to be what was the contribution to dinghy design of the top three (or four) UK designers of the 1960's (post Uffa). We have Ian Proctor - master of the UK national development classes, Jack Holt whose plywood designs were unparalleled, Peter Milne wi...

Big scows, little scows
Scows are fun. I spent part of my teenage years on the 18' Y-flyer. Nothing better downwind in flat water and a breeze. There is a neat YouTube video of the large American A-scows. Hull design from the early 1900's but fully hotted up now. You can get a good feel for the speed of these monsters from...

British Moth - sail cloth choices
Not really a 'Classic' question but since I know there are a few British Moth sailors that regularly post to this forum, I'll give it a go. The Classic Moths (USA) are debating opening up the sail cloth rules (for now only woven Dacron is allowed). I know that the British Moth allows both Dacron and...

Skol; short rig or the taller International rig?
We had a Skol racing in the Classic Moths (U.S) a while ago. "Mean Tangerine" had a reputation for being somewhat unruly, a surprising reputation since the top of our fleet is populated with the narrow gutted Mistral design. Will be interesting to get Rupert's sailing report on the Skol. I...
