Looks like were going to have a great weekend. But I need a definitive statement on Larks. Do Larks qualify ? Owner of an early Lark says they do, but my records seem to eqivocate on when Larks were designed. I know there was a Lark at Shearwater, but I don't know if it raced offically. I don't want...

Here's the detail on Frensham. Our CVRDA weekend, our third, will be on 16th/17th July, and we will have one race on Saturday (14.35ish) and three on Sunday. Anyone is welcome to sail in the morning - we just ask that you keep clear of the Cadets, who will be having race practice then. We will have ...

Some years ago I visited Stanley and Thomas, the boat restorers on the Thames (and when you see some of their slipper launch restorations you may believe they are the best in the business) During my visit Mark Stanley showed me a steam pinnace built in the 1860's they were working on. It had had a c...

Just wanted to add my thanks to the others for the Shearwater event. Carol and I always enjoy being there. Must say, however, that the weather/wind made this a challenging event. 7 laps per race with 4 gybes per lap is not Finn friendly in those conditions. I think I'll have to find a more Shearwate...

Alan I'm not an expert, but you can get to the heel. Unlike the OK, where I think the position of the heel is fixed, the Finn mast heel is carried in an adjustable track, which is wound forward or back to adjust mast rake. Combined with varying positions at deck level, at least on newer boats, this ...

I'm surprised the Merlin Forum is debating car paints. All Guy Winder's wooden Merlins - going back to the late 70's - were painted after hours in the spray shop of the car dealer behind which his boat building shop was situated. I had an Omega hulled Merlin spray varnished by Guy's people in 1981, ...

I bought an elderly Vanguard Finn recently. There appears to be no way to retain the mast in the boat. Usually there is a bolt sticking out of the side of the base of the mast, which goes into a slot in the foot and turns, thus 'locking' the mast in. But there is nothing on this one. Anyone got any ...
