Re: Your opinion on the centreboard and cockpit sole refurb.
I always paint centreboards, The centreboard is quite long and as a result, on most waters. prone to grounding and damage. Its easier to spot with paint ( I normally use white) when roll tacking , capsizing etc so something can be done before it gets too bad. Cockpit floor. I assume that as a 1969 b...

Re: What is the correct term for..
I suppose it depends which class we are talking about. The Enterprise class for example refers to "wash boards shall be fitted or moulded" and then gives a measurement. I often , both as a builder and measurer of Enterprises, wondered why. They were to all practical intents and purposes us...

Washboards is the correct term although I believe that some classes do refer to them as breakwaters.

Re: Maybe not a dinghy, but worth a look on ebay
According to my "Boys Book of Sailing" it could very easily be a Marlin. A Proctor design from the middle /late 60s , a sort of watered down Typhoon. They didn't catch on!

Re: Painting the inside of a grp moulding
Ed, Brushing Hi build is easy provided it is thinned a bit and you can work fast. On wood hulls I would normally seal with either epoxy primer or (preferred option) 2k clear coat lacquer Then 3 or 4 coats of Hi build. Sand back flat within 24 hours and then as much or as little additional Hi build a...

Re: Painting the inside of a grp moulding
You have got to love the way these threads wander about. From painting GRP to First Class via Mosquitos its very educational. Back to the case in hand ,painting GPR , I would recommend 2k hi- build car primer. You can thin it as much as you like or try to plaster it on neat which will fill any blemi...

Re: Heron centerboard case leak
I have heard of stranger ideas but not often. On the face of it I cant see why it wouldn't work although what the insurance person would say in the event of a disaster is anybody's guess. Our first Albacore was somewhat lacking in the buoyancy department ( it hadn't got any at all!) and as a quick f...

Re: Heron centerboard case leak
I would use thickened epoxy every time. It might be worth splitting the centreboard case and regluing that as well to make a proper job of it. Make sure it is square to the hog when you put it back in.

Re: Heron centerboard case leak
Peter V is absolutely right the whole issue has to come out and its not much of a job. A boat of that vintage will almost certainly be screwed down from the top the only blot on the horizon is screw degradation and that has been covered extensively in this forum before, Any idea what size the buoyan...

Re: Mast and rigging winter storage
My Albacore masts are supported horizontally by plastic gutter brackets screwed under the eaves of the workshop. I cant see any point in removing rigging You only have to put it back on!!
