Re: Boxing Day Sail

Peter We have an open pursuit race on Boxing Day at Nottingham. Usually 20 -25 boats turn out, mostly home boats but all visitors are very welcome. It is not taken very seriously and ends with mince pies and mulled wine indoors. Today there was sheets of ice floating down the Trent but six of us ven...

Re: 2.8 xFaster than the wind dead down wind !!!

What made me smile about the whole thing is that such a craft has no use other than to travel directly downwind. The people who were getting so uptight - they were really slagging each other, and some of it was bang out of order - were upsetting themselves over something of no practical use whatsoev...

Re: 2.8 xFaster than the wind dead down wind !!!

There was a long and ultimately acrimonious thread on a well known boat design web site about this. It is perfectly possible for a "boat" to travel dead downwind faster than the wind (ddwfttw), without gybing like a high speed catamaran or ice yacht. You need an underwater turbine that dri...

Re: 2011 events

Rupert
Another date for your fixtures list. We are having the Old Boats Weekend at Nottingham on 21-22nd May, same format as this year so people can do either or both days.
Details a bit nearer the time, just wanted to get the date on the CVRDA calendar for now.
All the best

Re: are we getting heavier

Was that the Fireball that someone fell out of and nearly got run over by an Albacore?

Re: 2011 events

Rupert,
That would be good, we intend to have a meeting at Nottingham next year and a list of dates to avoid a clash would be very useful.
Cheers

Re: 2011 events

Peter Saw your boat at Sheppey, I was in the Albacore - the only varnished boat in the village - and it was a right old slog. Talk about windy, we knocked an hour off last year's time, mainly from planing for about 10 miles straight after the start. Great fun but scary in places. Sorry the admin dep...

Re: Nottingham 5/6 June 2010

Flip,
Yes, fingers crossed for the weather, only gentle breezes today and Saturday, but yesterday we got blasted off the water.
Two Albacores infers at least four people - can you let us know if you want supper on Saturday.
Look forward to seeing you,
Steve

Re: Nottingham 5/6 June 2010

Brooksey, look forward to seeing you, with as many Finns as you can manage. A long drive from Devon, and your support would be appreciated. I've been thinking about a Finn for a while and wouldn't mind a go if that would be ok. Garry, I did get A195 from Ebay and oddly enough you were spot on, the a...

Re: Nottingham 5/6 June 2010

Time we posted some details so here goes: We are having the event over two days, entry £5 per day so people can enter for either one or both days. There is plenty of room for camping and caravans, and we can arrange to open up (galley and bar included) on Friday pm / evening if anyone wants to come ...

Re: Hunts Meeting

Thanks to everyone at Hunts for a thoroughly enjoyable day out on Saturday, and it's going to be a hard act for us to follow in three week's time at Nottingham. There were some great boats out, I think the Hornet is the only one I've ever seen, and I hope she's fixed and sailing again soon. For the ...

Firefly measurement rules

Just about to start re-decking Mk1 F2125, the measurement rules used to be on the RYA website but they seem to have changed it, and I can't find them on the Firefly website. Would anyone know where I could look them up?
Cheers
