Re: Sea Fire on the bay

the wooden battens in the GRP floor did give me slight cause for concern. Aren't those an issue on older GRP Solos? I had a GRP Solo with soggy wet floor battens, caused by holes from the toe straps and other fittings through the thin layer of fiberglass over the wood. I don't think it would be too...

Re: Sea Fire on the bay

Doesn't look as though I'm going to be able to take up the offer of a test sail, but my Dad's going to go and have a look at it as he lives in that neck of the woods. High hopes for this one - although the wooden battens in the GRP floor did give me slight cause for concern. Aren't those an issue on...

Re: Sea Fire on the bay

Aha! Thanks!

I was beginning to despair of ever finding one. I hope this one isn't cream-crackered.

Re: Marauder on the bay

The Seafly Memories website describes the Mayfly as 'the forerunner of the Seafly' http://seaflymemories.org.uk/mayfly.php According to that website, there's some debate over who designed the Seafly - it suggests early sources attribute it to Kelley and describe the boat as a scaled up Mayfly, sligh...

Re: Marauder on the bay

I always feel that Searfire was the best looking of the Mayfly and Seafly trio, as the chines do not go right upto the bow and being able to sail it from the Trap singlehanded would have been great. The class Assoc was at the Dinghy Show at Picketts lock early 80's and faded out quite quicky after ...

Re: Marauder on the bay

And in fact I think there was one in his shed when Nik and I went down there a while back. I had to ask him what it was. The seller is Bosworth Water Trust, a little play and pay type 'club' an hours drive from me. They are probably selling off graveyard boats since the conversion from club to comm...

It looked like it was withdrawn so I assumed sold elsewhere. May check though.

Is it definitely a Seafire though? The shape didn't look quite the same to me, though the photos were admittedly not great

I presume we're talking about a boat and not a euphemisim for unconventional weekend activities?

Wow. Time capsule. I wonder if I can persuade my other half to lift the new boat embargo?

Re: Firefly, god buy or bad buy?

Funnily enough, I've been looking at this one - a Firefly has been on my list of possibilities as a small two hander that can be sailed singlehanded, and this one seems in a good original state. The price has recently come down a bit, which to my mind makes it a more realistic prospect. I like that ...

Re: I found a Fleetwind!

Is this the one on Apollo Duck? I'm going to look at it in a week or two. I sailed one years ago and I think it would suit my needs rather well, though I'd prefer a wood deck!

Edit: not the same boat but presumably from the same original source?
