Re: Jib sheeting arrangements on an old Fireball

Hi Andy, Now I know your sail number I realise we have exchanged messages on the UKFA site! My advice would be adopt a relatively simple and cheap approach as there will be little difference to your boat's performance if you go down the all singing and dancing route. Yes, your jib is highly likely t...

Re: Jib sheeting arrangements on an old Fireball

Hi Andy (and thanks for the intro Roger!), Fireball lay-outs altered radically in the late 70s as cockpit sheeting pretty quickly replaced deck-mounted bulls-eyes and similar (often mounted on 'H' tracks). It sounds as if your Fireball may have been one of the last to be fitted out in the older styl...

Re: Another Mystery Hull.....

The Fireball ('Schizo' FB 902 (?) can't quite recall the sail number offhand) sailed by Bill Kempner was a standard hull that he adapted for a sliding seat. He later advertised the it for sale in a conventional state but the sliding seat was made available if the buyer required it. I've no idea if t...

Re: What does everyone else do with their sails?

I use half dozen garden trellises - the long narrow ones - suspended one beneath each other from one side of the boat store (my wife persists in calling it a garage for some reason) roof. It doesn't take too much width off the 'garage' (there's still enough space for two stacked Fireballs and a coll...

Re: Many boats for sale here

It not Crocodile JD that is on offer for free on the sailing anarchy thread but Dogbolter, another worlds winning boat. Just needs collecting from Ireland..... Graham Ah yes, I see! Must remember to open eyes and engage brain before typing! If it wasn't for the fact that further expansion of my per...

Re: Many boats for sale here

If you are after a fireball Max perhaps the one mentioned on the last page (3?)of this forum thread might be of interest :- http://forums.sailinganarchy.com/index. ... pic=120173 Hi Max, If Crocodile JD comes on the market I suspect there'll be quite a bit of interest. Serious history there! I can ...

Re: Class Representatives

Hi everyone, I'm happy to be a point of reference for the Fireball class but, given I'm on the fringes of CVRDA and have only attended one event, I don't think I can really fulfill the stated requirements of a fully-fledged 'Class Representative'. Sailing for me involves racing my reasonably up-to-d...

Re: Foil Dinghy

Apologies for taking so long but I've finally got my hands on a photo of my Foil. The picture is a little damaged now I'm afraid (and the scan appears to have reduced the height of the rig) but here it is warts and all. Taken in mid-1969 off Changi, Singapore. Chris Turner Fireballs 6, 66 and 14463

Re: can anyone give me any info about my swordfish (mary lou

Peter H - AJ Wilson must almost certainly be Alan Wilson who raced Fireball 75 'Aquila' very successfully during the 1960s. I believe he was also Chairman of the UKFA for a while. This is a bit of a long shot but are you in contact with Alan's son? I'd like to touch base with him since, as UKFA Arch...

Re: Insurance again

Fireball 6 is insured through Craftinsure who are quite happy to acknowledge that she should be assessed differently to a conventional Fireball and have reduced the premium appropriately. It's worth having a chat....

Re: Foil Dinghy

Yes, that's the one. Only just big enough for me and my 8-year old sister if I wasn't sailing single-handed. Too small to race though; I switched to Cadets/Snipes/GP14s for that. My parents have loads of photos of the Foil but I'm afraid I can't access them too quickly. Chris Turner Fireballs 6, 66 ...

Re: Foil Dinghy

My first boat was a Foil. I sailed her at RAF Changi YC, Singapore 1968-70. Gaff-rigged with a bowsprit. Great fun! I had already sailed one at Hawley Lake, then an Army sailing club (maybe it still is? I don't know), before. It was in my Foil that I had the dubious distinction of being towed out fr...

Re: classicsails over on the bay - fireball and moth

But not Fireball sails.... Was it the Bullet that was the youth fireball? Interesting that they should be measured by the fireball measurer. The UK Fireball Association agreed to look after the Bullet until such time as critical mass developed. As is now known, the class never really took off and i...
