Proctor Event Bosham - Important Change of Date

All,

I'm now hearing that there will be a formal confirmation in the next 24- 48 hrs that the Proctor Gala event will be slipped back to a date in early September.

As soon as I hear more I will put up a new post on here

Re: Calling Firefly Experts

Pat, The story of the Firefly at the 1948 Games is a real tale of deals done behind the bike sheds and then some almost laughable muddling through. I did all this in 2008 for the 60th Anniversary (which the Firefly Class celebrated in style down at Torquay). It was quite a complex picture in the end...

Re: Atlanta Vario

Rippler...........

I have found a superb picture of Fairey Tales - it's a real cracker - that I'll be putting on the FB page on Friday (the famous Fab Friday foto).

ANY old 505 pics in your dads box would be great......

Re: Atlanta Vario

Rippler- shortly after the 'famous' picture was taken they wiped out - have a poor quality version of the 'what happened next'! According to the details that I hold, Fairey's didn't come on board straight away with tooling for the 5o5. One of the issues was that A N Other Solent based designer, well...

Re: Atlanta Vario

Laser Tourist - here in my archive I have some of Alan C's early records. Soon, I'll be putting up (on the Fbook page) details of when the 505 first came and sailed in a regatta - at Meulan. I'm supposed to be attending a meeting there later in the year - you do ever escape the warmth and sun of the...

Re: Atlanta Vario

I've now got details of the owners of all the early boats (this came as a 'gift' almost whilst following the story of how the bat migrated out to the US).

Much as I hate to disappoint you Laser Tourist, your version of events doesn't always tally with the written records.

Rippler. Brilliant! You might be interested in the Facebook page that I'm running alongside the project to write the 505 Book (dead easy - look for '505book'). That was 15 - k16 was Ralph Wadhams famous YandY - back in the days before sponsorship, it was amazing that the then owner of Yachts and Yac...

Re: What was wrong with the Mirror 14 / Marauder?

Hi Rupert, Thinking back, one of your boats might have been at the Nationals last year. If so, then they (hopefully) had a blast. We set them good courses and true start lines then let them get on with it - the racing was close and competitive (close enough for me to read the riot act to a few) yet ...

Re: What was wrong with the Mirror 14 / Marauder?

Rupert, Last summer I was RO for thee Miracle Nationals and having spent a week (they still do a week long event) watching them, that conviction that this is a great little boat was more than re-inforced! Very similar in many ways to the Mirror, just that bit bigger and a tad quicker. I'd happily re...

Re: What was wrong with the Mirror 14 / Marauder?

HI Rupert, It's all in that one phrase, "Even when released by the Mirror Group in favour of the Miracle,". MGN had been made aware that the Mirror 14 was far, far more than a grown up Mirror - which was what they wanted in the first place. The Miracle was pure Jack Jolt - a pragmatic solu...

Re: Ian Proctor Spectrum?

Robert, I'm hopeful that Bosham will be getting a Spectrum along to the Gala event in June and can get some pictures then - but I want this for the dinghy show! I've not come up with anything yet and have trawled all my usual sources and then some others as well - those pics that exist are very poor...

Re: Ian Proctor Spectrum?

Pierre - Hope you are still on here!

Do you have access to any pictures of the Spectrum that used to sail at WWSC? If not, do you have contact details for the guy (your sailing sec?) who used to sail it - most people have a pictures somewhere of their boat.

Cheers
