Re: My old Hornet - Rev. Dr. Syn

It may be worth contacting the Hornet association on their website http://www.hornet.org.uk. there are some people with long memories and old yearbooks who may help with the history. There has been a resurgence in numbers of old Plank Hornets. At one point we thought there were none left but there a...

Re: Heron centerboard case leak

I agree with all the above. I tried to do the short cut of dribbling warm epoxy in and as Peter says it just traps water in and continues to rot.

Re: Add a Boat.

I have tried trapeze, is plank easier for crew ? (I am assuming crew uses plank on Hornet ?), I have fell off back of seat on Minisprint a couple of times, it accelerates so fast sometimes, that's a weird sensation, being dragged along. The Hornet accelerates much faster than the mini sprint Robert...

Re: Rudder shape ?

Toby Barsley-Dale, has a tubercules rudder on his Hornet. He rates it and he seems to go pretty quick as well. I am sure he would be happy to give his opinion.

He will probably try to sell you one as well as he has a vested interest. :D

Re: Add a Boat.

Hornet, Holts first fast boat and the sliding seat makes it so much fun.

The class also had such a reputation for partying that it was banned from many clubs. Dougal could tell you more.

Re: Flying Dutchman GBR290

I dream of owning an FD, it was the boat I lusted after as a boy and even thought about selling all my children to buy one. :D However at over twenty foot I just don't have room or live near enough to a venue where I could sail her. As far as events for larger classes are concerned we have held them...

Re: Work on Planet, N12 N672 1948

Our environment has enough challenges without us adding to it. I see no need to take any chances with this or any other product. It is perhaps appropriate Roger, that this thread is within a thread about saving the planet! The safety notices on thes products relate to the use and disposl of ...

Re: Advice wanted, please...

I know they are heavy etc but you can pick up a cheap GP14 for very little, it is stable comfortable and I have single handed them a lot. My dad had a suit of sails from a Gull for taking the grandchildren out and it worked very well. You could use a second hand suit of Firefly sails just as well. A...

Re: Removing brass stews from keel?

I think that the idea of the roll pins is to core around the screw before drawing it out. Thus you never drill the screw itself which I certainly have found to be nearly impossible. Can someone clarify that? That's exactly as I understand it, the roll pin actually grips the outside of the screw or ...

Re: Removing brass stews from keel?

I know Chris has used roll pins in a drill in reverse slowly to draw out damaged screws, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/201076022307?adgroupid=13585920426&hlpht=true&hlpv=2&rlsatarget=aud-133395220866%3Akwd-131843264706&adtype=pla&ff3=1&lpid=122&poi=&ul_noapp=true&...

Re: Work on Planet, N12 N672 1948

My dad always used to put his clinker Lymington pram out on the trot line in the mud with the bungs out for a week. Bungs out so that water getting in when she was floating could get back out again when the tide went out. She took up nicely and hardly needed baling out all summer apart from rainwater.
