Re: Classic Boat Insurance

Its kinda awkward though. Our boats have low sale value, but enormously expensive to repair, so the smallest of incidents is probably an insurance write off. And then if we do manage to be responsible for an accident to a third party - swimmer or something - then its just as expensive as any other c...

Wood finish...

Now I know some of you folks wood bash other ways than boats so... I've been building a new speaker cabinet for my bass guitar rig, since changes in tech mean it can be made smaller and take up less room in the house than the old one. As things are at the moment its not going to go out on the road t...

Re: Mike Brigg at the IC worlds

Loads of Kudos to Mike for not only achieving a respectable placing, but also being one of the minority to score a finish in every race. It was by no means a light airs series either. Its speaks volumes not only about him personally, but perhaps even more about the quality of the work he put in on T...

Re: Skol 2 parts and info sought...

Thanks... should the end of the dagger board be shaped in any way, or square? I don't suppose it makes an awful lot of difference in the grand scheme of things. Spitfire tips are marginally more efficient and look nice, a squared off end may be more practical if you sail in shallow water and bump t...

Re: Skol 2 parts and info sought...

A 42inch long daggerboard that fits the slot would be very much in the right territory - that's the size of the Mag 5 board in my garage and the one for my Skol (at Sailing club) isn't much different. The rudder isn't that much smaller as I recall.

I'd be extremely surprised if "going to china" is anything other than "being dumped in a container for scrapping/recycling".

I'd be interested in hearing the destination of the Canoes Nederka and Aquamarine.

One of Theo Smith's canoe yawls seems to be the first recorded planing boat.

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

What is it costing to leave relevant boats (none ethnic) in polytunnel ? They won't be left will they. The ones that will sell will sell, the rest, well, quite possibly they will just get burned. The job of the administrators (apart from, of course, finding the money to pay for their own generous f...

Where's the money coming from to house them? NMM already have all the boats they can manage AIUI.

232 Rainbow 2 was 1992, 164 Rainbow must have been about 1981.

Re: Roll up, roll up, buy an entire museum collection

Oh dear , why are these being sold off ? I suspect that its one thing amassing a collection of boats, but quite another to set up a proper functioning self financing museum to display them. I fear the fact that most of them seem to have spent recent years stored in a polytunnel tells its own story.
