Re: Danish Oil

Danish Oil should be a wood finish made from either Tung Oil or Polymerized Linseed Oil. It drys hard and I see no reason why it should not be used as a base coat, although I would check very carefully what you actually have and try a test piece. It needs to be applied carefully so that you do not g...

Re: Poirot

It was actually no 24 - "Nan" with borrowed sails. Malcolm's sails for No1 were made in the right colour cloth and the right cut.

However, fear not, the Hornet connection is still string as past owners include Mr Willett, Mr Dealtry and Mr Constable! :D :D

Re: 2010 confirmed locations and dates

Don't worry David, we can find something better than the light weight Abbott. We recommend a Broadside and Barley Wine as a light warm up   Come to think of it the Australians at the Hornet worlds enjoyed Abbott and Barley Wine - well I think they enjoyed it when they remembered who they w...

Re: 2010 confirmed locations and dates

That's ok D - we will look after you up here  . As Pat says add Pyefleet on the way and find the real worlds of sailing. Brightlingsea and Oulton = just perfect. Add in Adnams, Green King and Woodfordes and you will get double perfect. You can park the camper at mine no problem. :D :D :D :D...

Re: 470 PY?

According the the class you should not have allowance because their boats are wonderful and never wear. They know this because an old boat once won a championship somewhere. The fact that it had never been sailed and kept in storage for years had nothing to do with it! :D .

Re: Otter or.........not a.........

Having organized match racing, commentated on match racing (and other racing) and actually done some reasonably high level match racing, I will stick to watching the grass grow - it is more fun :( The AC is doing just fine. It is doing what it has been doing for the last 100+ years. Bitching and arg...

Re: scrapers

Cabinet scrapers are great but there is a knack to getting and edge on them. They should produce shavings not dust. You will have to ask or hunt the web for a demo on the black art of getting an edge. Alternatively the Skarsten is great as long as you keep an edge as has been said and I grind up old...

Re: Marauder, Minisail and ???

OK, as requested and with support to Big AL another misty eyed thought for the Hornet. The boat is fantastic. Of course there are other boats that are as good but the Hornet was something special. Where did it go wrong? I doubt there is one simple answer. Part of the problem was that they were built...

Re: Otter or.........not a.........

The problem the Tornado has is that it is too good a boat for a cheapskate event such as the Olympics. Having sailed many cats, it is still one of the finest boats you could ever sail. It was good under its original rig and superb with the new one. The rig change was at the behest of ISAF to "s...
