Re: The worst classic dinghy.
My old scout group had two boats called Ladybirds. I don't know old they were but they must have been at least 10 years old at the time and this was 20 years ago. They were dreadful, flat bottomed things built from half-inch thick chopped strand mat and with no side-decks. They were overweight, chro...

Re: ???????????????
The Sea Scout group I used to belong to had an Express (one of several oddities people donated or loaned to us which included an Alpha MkI and a Beaufort). The main problem we had with it was that the centreboard case seemed too low, and water constantly slopped into the boat through it. Not sure wh...

For sale again - haven't had time to get it onto the water. There's another suit of sails now a bit newer than the others.

Re: Rannoch: Uffa Fox International Canoe for sale
Thanks for your kind words Gavin. I agree about classic forms of transport... Some more than most, with the likes of the Fairey Firefly, Albacore and Swordfish all being aircraft as well as dinghies, the latter built with techniques developed on aircraft. Uffa Fox designed a lifeboat for air-droppin...

Re: 1939 International 14...Free to a good home!
If I can't find her a home soon it might be a bonfire! I think I have one sorted...will keep you posted. Oh Lordy.... if it's going to be a bonfire, I'll take it. I would dearly love to own one of these pre-war 14s, but ideally not for a few years. Still, I can't bear the thought that such an histo...

Re: mystery
Definitely looks like one of those singlehanded mini-keelboats - it looks like a seat back integrated into the deck moulding behind the daggerboard case. I wonder what class it is, and if the rig from one of the better known types might fit. No idea where the 'Topper Spirit' name comes from - to the...

Has it closed? That's a shame. My first job was at that training centre, it's still the best job I've ever had.GAVinT wrote:When I got back into sailing about 12 years ago, the guy who ran the training centre that subsequently closed, at Ardleigh,

Re: Jack Chippendale
My MR is a Chippendale boat, so I read this with a heavy heart. I haven't sailed it yet, but I have already had much enjoyment out of inspecting the beautiful craftsmanship of this 48-year-old boat.

I was hoping for more pics of the hull... Unless I'm missing something very obvious, you can't make out the hull shape from the original image. Presumably it could be round bilge or any number of chines?
