An idea to encourage race participation in clubs.

I'm sure that many of us do most of our racing in our local club general handicap races. And, as our boats are to an old spec, it can be hard to get a decent result on the classes' current handicap. However - what if we were somehow able to put together a virtual cvrda handicap competition - to attr...

Re: Finn nationals

I would like to - in fact I will try to next year. It will take time to get mine up to a condition I would be happy to sail for a day on the sea, Also, the dates are very difficult (well, the Friday is, as I teach, and you can not get time off in teaching time). Also the BFA membership cost is actua...

Re: Classic Boat Insurance

... still not cheap! Cost of replacement kit, especially masts, mean Finns are expensive to insure - if you don't have any carbon masts could be worth a phone call to see if they will take this into account. I just went for 3rd party only... but I wonder how much it would cost to replace the needle...

Re: Wood finish...

Linseed oil can be bought with dye in, or you could dye it with any oily dye, to get any colour you like. It will always breath and move with the wood, and minor dings can be simply polished out with the same. It OK for permanent outdoors if you top it up with a light coat every time it looks a bit ...

Re: Skol 2 parts and info sought...

I have the original (but broken) stainless steel rudder stock from the well known here Skol 'The Hopple' and also its original tiller with extension. We replaced them with a much more practical and hardly any heavier Laser pattern part. The rudder stock was produced from a single piece of SS 2mm she...

FD for sure - but left outside uncovered for 5 years? That is an awful long time and I suspect she will need much TLC.

Re: Any ideas?

Yes I saw that and it seems pretty close though from what I remember of Redwings (which isn't a lot) the transom seems much deeper. I'll ask to seller for more info. Having recently seen quite a lot of Redwing transoms at Tenby, it is most definitely a lot deeper at the stern than a redwing, and th...

Re: Cadet/General Bouyancy question

If you make the cadet float very high when on its side smaller crews will definitely struggle to get up on the board if they are in the water and it will turtle very quickly - but if you feel they are nimble enough to go over the top on capsizes - then that will not be a problem. A mast head float (...

Re: Unvarnished Mirror.

IF the photo on the advert is of the boat you are considering then it has been painted and varnished already. Looks very good, but photos can be very very deceptive.
