Re: Odd rigging... What are these for?
Michael... the gooseneck moves up and down only.... the mast rotates, but at the same angle as the boom... no over-rotation is possible...

Re: Leader dinghy
I was taught to sail in a Leader... It was roomy enough for 3 twelve year olds and the instructor... There's a nice looking one on ebay at the moment.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Leader-Sailing-Dinghy-not-GP14-Enterprise-Wayfarer-day-boat-fishing-family-/311590225060?hash=item488c3984a4:g:pR8AAOSwUUd...

Re: Odd rigging... What are these for?
Ah-ha! That might be it!!
I've seen pics of Scows fitted with diamond stays and forward angled spreaders to stop mast flex, but mine doesn't have those.... I guess I'll have to sail it to see if mast bend is a problem...

Odd rigging... What are these for?
My Scow has rotating mast... the shrouds and forestay meet on a fitting on the front of the mast, with no spreaders etc... About 6 feet up the mast, again on the front face, is an eye, with two short - about 18" - wires attached: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/92926908/2016-04-09%2018.53.3...

GRP boat with no gelcoat?
Is it possible?
My Flipper Scow appears to have no gel coat.... I've been sanding paint off the bottom... I'm pretty sure it's paint from the way it flakes off... But underneath I seem to be straight into the polyester resin, with no intervening hard shiny gelcoat layer...

Re: Flipper Scow
The hull has been painted on at least one occasion over the last 35 years or so... It looks horrible, and is oddly bumpy... So I break out the 60 grit sandpaper, and attack.... one of the bumps I removed has revealed a little weep! https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/92926908/2016-04-10%2013.32.37sm...

Flipper Scow
Continuing the theme from Minisails, I've just bought a Flipper Scow! I know it's not strictly CVRDA fodder, but an interesting boat nevertheless... Looks like it will be a fairly easy resto job... it's all there apart from the rudder stock and tiller....I've found a good pic on the internet of that...
