Thanks for the advice. I certainly favour using epoxy because it means I can coat the underside of the deck first (indoors) as well. I'm also a bit worried about all the clamps, as it's the foredeck I'm doing and the majority of it is forward of the bulkhead I cannot really clamp any of it. I can pu...

Is there an alternative suitable glue for re-decking other than epoxy? I've rebuilt the Finn's deck beams and mast support so I'm ready to redeck. I'd usually do it with epoxy but I want to get it sailing again as soon as possible and I may not be able to wait for the temperature (in my front garden...

Sad day today. I was being a pratt on the run and capsized the Finn to windward. When I pulled the boat up the deck didn't like it much and gave way, so I've got a spilt king plank, one snapped deck beam and a knackered deck. I suppose I'll be able to get to the mast step a bit easier now! The deck ...

I think the inland/sea issue is quite difficult. Like Alan I have been used to sailing on the sea, and find it quite difficult to adapt to the different skills of inland sailing. Also, becasue I'm doing most of my sailing inland now, whenever I do get the opportunity to sail on the sea I take it. So...
For Rod's benefit.... I remember the TV dinghy because our scout troop were given one. It sailed quite well but didn't last long. I don't know how many were made but I'm sure it was never very many and they were never raced to my knowledge, just used as a fun boat. To provide some sort of protection...
Does it really need books? I've got very few books I can refer to. I have been sailing dinghies for many years (as others have I suppose), I even sailed a TV dinghy for a while when the scouts had one. I think I got the Linton Hope/ Brown boat answer from one book, the picture of Richard Creagh-Osbo...

Good discussion. Should a Laser or Lark over 25 years old be eligible? They're both older designs than a 25 year old Merlin. It goes back to the point of racing with CVRDA. I feel most people do not realise just how competitive some older boats are. The problem is that many people sail old boats wit...
For me there's three stages to answering the quiz. The first, and most interesting is seeing how many you can answer without looking anything up or going near the internet. This year I reckon I've got about 31 answers, or parts of answers. Then I start looking things up. I don't enjoy this bit as mu...

Thanks Neil. The boat is number 220, I don't know the story behind the sail, it was the best of a number I got with the boat. I bought it from Simon Hiscocks (yes that one) as a bare hull in need of repair and made the rudder blade and centreboard myself then fitted it out. The intention was to lear...
