Re: Help
A.G completly agree, having raced ent's for the past 40 years hull finish is most important (foils even more so) nowadays everybody seems to spray, but i don't know if you remember the Avacraft boats they had a most amazing finish and yet they were all hand painted. I also remember that paint contai...

Re: Help
A.G is 800 grade too agressive using it with water containing fairy liquid, even Seamark Nunn my local chandlery only stock 1000 as their finest grade and their out of stock. I also went to Pet's World today and they said the've never heard of a wax for turtles or one made from turtles!

G4 Pond sealer
As an aside from Boat restoration, I'm having a new wooden floor fitted at home (solid planks) do you think G4 would be a good way of sealing before I varnish ?

Re: Help
A.G You say on a friday the paint had a light burnish, would that be a light rub with 1200 wet and dry and then a polish with T cut, or more than that.

I am using a brush, because I worried about using a roller on the planks, would i get any paint on the joint area (if you get my drift) i assume the foam pad is used after you have put the paint on with a roller.

Re: 1948 International 14 restoration ethics.
David H your post has worried me, I recently bought MR 2717 which until a year ago was still being raced regularly at Whitstable, I am refurbing not restoring as the boat looks strong. Just to add to this overall post I believe Bob Longthe previous owner of the boat had the correct attitude in that ...

Re: Help
A.G I now have the certificate, under builder it says Aln/Owner, do you have any idea how much work the owner did, i.e is he likely to have decked it, did Aln do hulls that required decking. Anyway having stripped the decks, mech sanded they didn't cahange much so i have applied 3 coats of Blakes wo...

Re: Help
Jon, with my weight etc I don't think we will be sailing the boat competively, however it is a project to get an old boat out on the water, although I believe her previous owner was racing her regularly at Whitsable until last season, until he had a heart bypass at the age of 76. Can't see me even g...

Re: Help
I agree she is a well built strong boat amazing for her age, being an enterprise sailor used to nice stripey sapelle decks the lack of a strong grain in the deck timbers is something I'm not used to, I think also painting the hull dark blue rather than the current light blue will probably enhance th...

Help
I am in the process of refurbing a merlin, ghost rider design built by Aln, structurally sound but cosmetically a bit tired. I have stripped the decks using a hot air gun and sanded back using a random orbital with a 240 grit. The decks are a very light yellow colour (probably got Jaffa stamped on t...
