Re: Which Singlehander?
I have to agree with David and AG comments. The thing with bad race management is that we can (we may chose not to but it is choice) complain through the protests room and get involved in the RYA schemes mentioned. This is not necessarily so easy in a class rule with SMODS. Yes there have been measu...

Re: Dinghy Weeks and Classic Weeks
Don't worry Pat, it's just he knows hes not up to it and has to look for soft options. Of course he could rise to the challenge and prove himself.......... He has a merlin........ and there are only 7 up here at present........ Mind you he is obviously limited and frustrated because he can't even sp...

Re: Could this be a YW dayboat?
Oh the sweet sound of jealousy!
mind you even the sheep up here know how to sail, the air encourages advanced thinking! Sailing a SMOD though - I think would rather slit my wrists or listen to a politician!

Re: Could this be a YW dayboat?
I doubt it is a YW DB. There are several 14 foot or so clinker designs on this coast and from those photos it is difficult to really see. Built by Eversons of Woodbridge I would have to go for the Waldringfield Dragonfly. I know they were built by Nunn's over at Felixstowe and Roberston's of Woodbri...

Re: Singlehanded challenge
I do think that we should be inclusive where possible and although there is a CVRDA constitution it is not a tablet of stone and can like any class rule be amended if necessary. I would support the forming of another group for these classes and it must surely be better to have 40 boats that 20 as lo...

Re: FD on ebay
Interesting, I had not looked at the seller.
I have emailed Keith to ask him about the boat but will have to be a little careful as I don't think he and Tony get an that well these days.
Cheers

Re: Ampreg 21
I have to go among with Chris here. I have used Ampreg and it is a pain in the ..... Tricky to use and needs very careful handling. If you have the perfect set up and everything is controlled it is a good laminating resin, but I would never use it for general boat building. I know SP said it is idea...

Re: Which Singlehander?
While I wish I could name the people who tell me things of course a never can. Likewise I cannot list classes specifically. All I would say is buyer beware and never trust a salesman or marketing department. I know I was involved in fitting out on model and the varied between 64kg and 75kg. They wer...

Re: Which Singlehander?
To just cover a couple of points Rupert raises because I do believe that what is presented is not necessarily reality. I spend a lot of my work dealing with the many classes and manufacturers, both writing rules, judging and measuring boats at events and builders and working with quality assessment....

Re: Which Singlehander?
With regard to the DSM article you have to remember the author is just a mouthpiece of certain SMOD classes and therefore will spout the party line. The big insult is that he implies these classes have proper class rules to start with. If they had them, then people would support the class, whilst th...

Re: Heron dinghy bits.
The Heron class have allowed a Bermudan rig for a long while, must be a good 10 years plus. I agree with what David says. It is an interesting quandary when assessing classes. The Heron is indeed a baby GP14 and very nice to sail. It is interesting in that they followed the same path as the GP in th...
