Re: Anyone seen one of these?

I have a Round Britain race game played on a plastic map and also a game called Starboard which involves a wind direction chart inside a cleat plastic playing may. The boats actually have little spinnakers you take on and off as necessary. They both come in cardboard tubes and I think date from the ...

Re: east is east and west is west

The rivalry between areas was and is always fun and kept alive the fun of travel. The development of boats suitable for their area was one of the most important things in the sport. It started before dinghies with the local one designs which were the ultimate local boat. The ability for classes to a...

Re: Vintage Yachting games.

There was certainly some difference in hull shape on the FD's although I think it became less of a performance difference as time went on. Everything else measured on RP's boat, it was just the aft template section although I cant remember exactly what now. It was I think a little narrow on the turn...

Re: Vintage Yachting games.

Ah the longing of those who wish to be from the east coast (God's true sailing paradise) and can never be :D :D :D :D :D We have a special game of last man standing for those who would like to try the local beer and ditch water combination. I think we sent the last hard drinking Australians that cal...

Re: Vintage Yachting games.

Very briefly DH is right. If the British FD fleet had bothered to organise someone to attend they would have been welcomed with open arms. Especially so I suspect with a Superdocious. This was the first event and the organizers are very much asking for feedback and comments. I have already spent som...

Re: Seafire Dinghy

Hope to get mine in the workshop after Christmas. I haven't decided quite how much to do yet. Tracking down any pictures or details has so far proved fruitless but I think the boat coud be a good one.

Oh and nifty spinnaker handling is second nature to us up here :D :D :D :D :D

Re: Vintage Yachting games.

Hi Steve, I must have been standing almost next to you when the photo was taken! The race for Int 12's in the harbour was excellent and superb spectator value (well for sailors anyway :D ) Just to sum up, the event was blessed by reasonable weather and was a very good event. It is sad that several c...

Re: Mystery dinghy on ebay

A friend of mine saved the ferry fare years ago on the way to a 505 champs abroad. They put the whole boat and road trailer on the roof for the crossing. The idea being unload and then tow as normal after getting off the ferry. It was on a Triumph 2500 estate. Don't think the back doors opened when ...

Re: Effect of age on a wooden boat

Garry has covered most general points. I have Heron 621 built in 1956. she had been looked after and there was just a little rot near the mast step where water had sat. It was easily repaired. The boat will be a plywood skin over a frame and the main problem area will be the centre board case. These...

Re: I'm after a.......

Muddy Creek - where is that then. Given the seas in the estuary today, I would quite like a muddy creek. At lease we don't build refinerys on the sides of our ditches! :D :D :D :D

Besides its only mud on the bottom and your not supposed to be in that bit!

Careful David,

Thats an East Coast river and a very beautiful one, not quite as much fun as a little further south but a few clubs there that have a good record. You are going to have to come visiting, most of the locals don't bite :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Re: I'm after a.......

Methinks I see a little envy of our heritage here Pat! :D :D :D :D I really think he should make an appearance - the club house is used to people behaving badly - it survived the Hornet fleet for years! The south always feared the viking stock from the east  Strange how we adapted to the fo...

Re: I'm after a.......

My apologies but I have been a little snowed under rather than demised - trying to remember how to tack a Unicorn! We have far more interesting currencies for internet payment up here :D :D I am not sure when I will be able to visit the solent to see if the locals have caught up with the east coast ...
