Rubbing strip is fine. No hard and fact rules as long as the dimensions are in, she should be in class. Mahogony normally. Oak may not be so easy to bend to shape. Sure it possible if you try hard enough..
Quite few threads on here about fitting them so try search.

Re: Another Enterprise Restoration of boat number 1734
Thanks Hotspur. The steam tube was easy really. A piece of drain pipe long enough to accommodate the wood and capped each end by two plywood bungs. I made these with two different diameter hole sawn pieces of ply glued together with a bit of left over epoxy (a raw plug fitted nicely in the holes in...

Re: stainless steel keel band
Struggled to find Stainless band in the right class legal size for my GP. ended just buying some 316 strip shaping slightly with the file and fitting that. Brass over the stem so cant see it anyway. Refused to use alloy. Brass is available, at a cost, Wasnt that much more than alloy to be honest aro...

Re: wood glue types
Hi tony.
What boat, how much volume, is it structural, what finish, how old is the boat, what glue was used before above or below waterline, how long do you want it to last, how much do you have to spend, how much more work needs doing?

Re: 'Sharpening' cam cleats and no bung holes
Thanks for the suggestions, I won't waste time sharpening cleats... Regarding bungs I thought about going through the transom first but don't really want to mess with the way in which the planks are fixed (nailed). I like the idea of a self bailer but fear that the boat being a Tideway it will neve...

Re: Int 14 project
I know that Ash is not recommended for marine use but it is used for dinghy tillers. The tiller I made for my Finn has only a couple of coats of varnish on it and still looks like new, 6 years after making it. So, I wonder if ash is fine for a dinghy which spends the majority of its time out of the...

Re: Buoyancy aids
What Nessa says the big problem with those ones with the buckles down the front is they snag on the board or on gunwhales when hauling yourself onboard. Same with big pockets. The only way to stop the ridding up is with crotch straps. The bit I don't like with Bouyancy aids is how they easily pulled...
