Re: Grandfather's Axe...

From my point of view, provided it does not pass itself off to be in 'original condition' I do not have a problem with it provided it still measures and is going to be used. The problem arises when values increase because of originality, and we have a situation which is regularly encountered in the ...

Re: Finnesse......hiding away

If the NMM Falmouth are restoring her it would be fitting for it to sail in the first Classic Finn Nationals in June in the Carrick Roads and would give them a nice bit of PR, perhaps we should speak to them?

Re: Finn wooden mast restoration

Welcome Martin,
I'm sure PeterV will be along shortly to offer some advice as he still uses his wooden rig when the conditions suit.

Re: Wanted Old Finn for Restoration

This is not the Manchester boat that had been converted to a gaff rigged cruiser, but a one owner from new boat of '62 vintage,I have some photo's which I have been sent and it has clearly been dry stored for many years but I am trying to find out if it has spars, as it is many miles away from the n...

Re: Floods

Nice to see the Roadford level creeping up, they had been releasing water from the dam to keep the levels up for the salmon spawning, the way the river is flowing past the back of our garden now I think the salmon will be washed back out to sea...

Re: Wanted Old Finn for Restoration

The Pearson would get you back on the water reasonably quickly, and you could then repair the Elvstrom hull in slow time, and I'm sure that between us all at Roadford we can rustle up the parts to make it into a complete boat to increase the numbers, certainly I have a spare early Needlespar that I'...

Re: Wanted Old Finn for Restoration

On Saturday I will be going to view the Fairey Finn which has now become available after the passing of its original owner. It would appear from the Register that this boat has had one owner from new in 1962 and has been in dry storage for a considereble time, so in theory should be in very original...

Re: mast material

I think this one looks a much better buy Nessa and that other mast by description sounds like it has had a lot of UV exposure.

Re: Finns......

Whilst it appears to be fashionable to knock the RYA perhaps you should all try putting a case forward for some of this money. At Roadford we have recently received matched funding for our new committee boat and are about to ask for £10k from the development fund. There are hoops to be jumped throug...

Re: Finns......

So far the Olympic status of the Finn seems to be safe in the eyes of the ISAF Committee although its early days and a lot can happen before the final nod is given, however it would appear that sailing is becoming more of a sport for the fairer sex with the posibility of the ladies outnumbering the ...

Re: 2011 events

Sorry if I have confused you. Should read; Classic Finn Nationals June 11th/12th 2011 (Falmouth). Finn Festival 2012 (June 2012 Falmouth), which will include Finn Nationals, Finn Classic Nationals and Finn Gold Cup(Worlds). The Festival will be preceeded by the World Masters (May 2012 Pwllheli) and ...

Re: 2011 events

There will be a Classic Finn Nationals which will take place on the weekend of 11/12th June next year hosted by the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club in Falmouth which is being run as a prelude to the 'Finn Festival' hosted in Falmouth in 2012 in the lead up to the Olympics. The festival will run over a ten...
