Which way should my planks go?

Evening all
Not sure if this is in the correct forum ......

My 1965 Albacore number 1775 has its hull planking running horizontally , however as far as I can tell, every other image of an Albacore I look at online has its' hull planking at a diagonal.

Thoughts please?

Tiller extension needed

Afternoon all.
My 33 inch tiller extension needs replacing , with a as close as possible length match and a decent "almost universal" joint which won't allow the extension to drop below horizontal..

Anything out there?

Re: How long should I wait....?

duly noted!!

So, I gave the hull a tap with a fingernail this morning on the way out...It certainly felt and sounded hard..Is that good enough do you think?

Re: How long should I wait....?

Thanks Jim... Turning her over to sit back on the trailer, I can I suppose use the make shift cushions she is sitting on now to sit between hull and trailer.

However that's fantastic news , MUCH earlier than I expected...I had thought perhaps a week or two until the varnish is hard enough. Great!

How long should I wait....?

Good afternoon all. I am at last beginning to see the end of my amateur restoration project. I expect to put the last coat of varnish on the hull on Thursday or Friday this week. How long then should I expect to impatiently wait before I can safely turn my Albacore the right way up to start on the i...

Humidity

Morning all.
Looking on line, guidance as to what is too humid ranges from 50 to 80% relative humidity.

Boat is in a workshop which will be dry and still but does have gaps around the base and permanent ventilation slots in the roof.

So, any guidance appreciated...

Re: It's cold outside , and they say don't do it.

Have brought the varnish indoors and hidden it under the dining table...added makeshift insulation to my workshop and with a floodlight this evening the temperature rose in 40 mins or so from 3 to 4.5 degrees!! , I even took my gloves off. I think , when I dig out and put my old coleman lantern whic...

Thankyou all for your replies, warming the varnish before use sounds good....still concerned about the air and wood temp though.

It's cold outside , and they say don't do it.

Good afternoon all. Everywhere I look the guidance suggests it is best to varnish in a temperature of between 20 and 25c and certainly not below 10c. Given that XQSME is in an unheated workshop, in the UK, in March and I am reluctant to suggest bringing her indoors.....the temp recently hasn't risen...

The join between bench and sole

Good afternoon.

I have removed fibreglass strip from the join, which leaves a bit of a gap. My thought is to replace what was fibreglass strip with nicely shaped batten epoxied in place.

Your thoughts please on effectiveness for the join etc , or should I stick with the stuff I have removed?

Re: flaps or self bailers - your opinions please..

Thanks both,. Yes Graham you are right, bailers are the problem rather than the wood. I will have a look for a service kit the and hope to resolve there. I always had a feeling last year that water was coming in through the closed bailers and having removed them, I am unable to close them completely...
