Quite a task Jim. Are you trying to re-create the original Skol shape, the previous lower hull shape or just something that works?
This blog on a Shelley build might help with ideas on the framing

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project
It didn't have much chance to corrode, clean tubes slid together for about a minute then stuck solidly together. Obviously needed a nats more clearance  Good point though Jim, what is the yellow stuff called? I know its an isolator of some kind, usually under stainless fittings. Would it help ...

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project
Well, a new bottle of Argon gas and we had a further session on the rig frame and wings this weekend. Was going really well until I slid one carefully ground down tube onto the rear mounting stub and it refused to come off again - ever! You would think that Ali tubes would be made to fit neatly insi...

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project
a preview of the rig frame Stuart and I are building.... We started with a steeper angle on the front wing bar but when tacked together it didn't look right, so a bit of adjustment and sighting up with the rear bars resulted in this design. It would have been neatly welded but the gas ran out! Howev...

Re: My new Moff
Pleased to see another classic moth being used, hope you can get to some of the CVRDA events his year. To help find the sail number, these are the class rules: "The sail number and national letter(s) of the boat shall be cut into or indelibly marked on the hull, aft on the port side in figures ...

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project
The original Tratman & Lowther sail has the same luff length as later moth sails, but the leech is about 12" longer. This means the mast will need to be more upright than I am used to on the magnums. It would be useful though to have enough adjustment to swap sails and masts for different c...

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project
Roger, Thanks for your kind words of encouragement, I'm pleased you are following the slow but steady progress. Dollywaggon is looking a little more glamorous now :) Many delays due to sailing weekends and work but at least I have enough varnish on the decks to be able to start re-fitting. Had a nic...

Re: Roadford Meeting date VERY IMPORTANT
What a fabulous weekend with the most exciting sailing conditions. Well done to Alan and all at Roadford for another great CVRDA event. Great to see all the Classic Finns in close combat although you will understand the Mothies reluctance to get too involved. Those short first windward legs were a b...

Re: for you moffers
Thanks for the prompt, always interesting to see what is being built and how it is done. I have seen some details of the same boats (Mint design and modified Mint) on: http://mid-atlanticmusings.blogspot.co.uk/ where there are also photos of a Mistral under construction and a further link to a Shell...

Re: GP14 Repair
The bow leak is worth investigation under the paint, unless you can see a problem with the keelband fixings. It would have to be a very long screw that went all the way through the stem framing, but anything is possible. The structure of a "built to the plans" GP consumed vast quantities o...

Re: GP14 Repair
Has the boat been off the water for a long time? Traditionally built GPs were not very well sealed around the centreboard casing so when the timber dries out and shrinks there can be gaps and hence leaks. A leak around the bow is unusual though, does it have a buoyancy tank forward of the mast? Can ...

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project
The filling, sanding and primering has still been going on inbetween glueing sessions for the inwales, rubbing beads and what could be loosely called an upper deck. The shape and style of these side decks is mostly a more durable copy of the inwales that were just about still attached to the hull wh...

Re: Blithfield 24th & 25th May
Sorry that the Greensforge moth fleet can't make this event, we will be at Saundersfoot Coppet Week.
Hoping to shame lots of modern plastic again with a classic (nearly CVRDA) wooden Fireball.
Can you try a different date for next year

Re: MOTH SPOT ... ROADFORD RALLY
I'm going to be there with one moth, probably Mag7 unless by some miracle I manage to complete the Sprite in time.
Happy for others to have a go if conditions are suitable.

Re: PY starting point for 1971 Imperium scow international m
We have a list of PYs from IMCA(UK) that are age related for various designs. The oldest being the magnum 3 from around 1980. That rating was the same as an Enterprise (now 1115). I would suggest for a scow a fairer starting point would be the same as a British Moth at 1164 and see how it performs i...
