Re: Int Moth K3222 Project
I hadn't intended to go this far but.... some suspect repairs in the deck that need strengthening, no direct support under the mast step and I wasn't sure about the daggerboard case! Case was originally lined with a lovely yellow formica but it was peeling off in places. The joint between case and b...

Re: Another Enterprise Restoration of boat number 1734
All going well so far, good work. I understand your predicament with the joint between bottom panel and chine panel, the bottom would have been fitted first, then its edge planed off flush with the chine stringer, then the chine panel fitted. I would agree the practical way to replace the bottom pan...

Re: Tiger stripe Sapele ply offcut
I'm sure we can find you a suitable piece, do you have a photo of the deck that would help match the grain?
Send me an email with your details, I'll have a look in the shed!

Re: Another Enterprise Restoration of boat number 1734
A scarf joint in the bottom panel would need to be tapered back at least 2" or so. You are right in thinking the larger surface area for the glue, the stronger the joint will be. If using epoxy there will be plenty of strength without having to taper much more. By letting the patch in from outs...

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project
Not much work on the hull this week, been working on some new sail battens.... My Dad offered to cut a set of battens from a plank of Ash he had been saving for a worthy cause, how could i refuse? The boat came with some plastic tube battens which did not encourage much shape in the sail. Batten poc...

Re: Enterprise help needed
Ideally a couple of level saw benches with some padding on to protect the decks and prevent it sliding around as you work. We use a long bench at the back to span the width of the side decks, and a shorter one under the foredeck. A suitable working height will save much back pain.

Re: Enterprise help needed
That was quick work to get the case out, no wonder it leaked if it came out that easily! Good news that the hog is ok, its not impossible to repair but a lot easier if you don't have to. What state is the case in? Repair or replace? A good idea at this stage to make some patterns, especially of the ...

Re: Enterprise help needed
It is looking like a major job i'm afraid. It has all the signs of typical rot in the floor and parts of the hog and centreboard case. The biggest clue is the fibreglass tape that has been used over the centreboard case rails to stem the leak! Dark patches under lifting varnish also suggest the case...

Re: Enterprise help needed
Hi Gavin, welcome to the forum and world of classic boats. You have a bit of work ahead before getting afloat in your Ent but most things are fixable given patience and a bit of plywood and glue! How old is the boat? Its number should be carved into the Hog near the Transom. That will give us a clue...

Re: Int Moth K3222 Project
More paint stripping this week, started on the decks. Some of the paint had peeled on its own, revealing a nice top veneer so i extended the patch to see what it was like further over. Not being a fan of painted decks I was really pleased to see that the ply is a striped mahogany and with careful tr...

Re: international moth tiller extensions
Water pipe is usually ok,although some types are a bit thin-walled. I use black 20mm electrical conduit with some rope spiralled around for a grip. Looks like carbon but costs pennies and you get a free spare one out of a 3m length. If you do find the extension bending too much then maybe the steeri...

Int Moth K3222 Project
Following an ad in our boats for sale section I have taken on the restoration of Int Moth K3222, a Stockholm Sprite design from the late 60s/ early 70s and according to photos from the archives, the boat that won the 1972 Nationals. We started today, stripping the old paintwork back to bare wood to ...
