Re: Early Int. Moth info.
Many of the photos were provided by Chris Eyre and Ian Ridge (who is a mate of David H), and some by me - I think if someone could contact Adam May via the Moth website they could either get the publishing permissions transferred, to take over and adapt those old pages, or get the contact details of...

Re: Early Int. Moth info.
I have all the yearbooks from 1973 to 1998, and originals of the Claridge brochure and several others that weren't in the old scans. Also some of the photos in the archives were mine, and I have lots more. I also have about an hour of video I shot at the 1993 Worlds at Highcliffe. Adam May was the g...

Re: Early Int. Moth info.
Lots more interesting stuff coming out - mention of Magnum 9.9 GBR-4009 reminds me that my last Moth was GBR-4010............ Back to "The Magnum Story" (or should that be 'Magnum Force'?) While the Magnum 3 was the weapon of choice from 1977 to 1981, for the 1978 Worlds in Australia the M...

Re: Mirror Dinghy Restoration
Can somebody who owns a Mirror with both mast step positions tell me what the measurement is from the forward (solo) mast step to the daggerboard slot.

Re: Merlin 16 decks
The squadron code SD-M was of 501 Squadron, which did indeed see action in France with Hurricanes.

There's also a Magnum 9 at Thorney Island, with lots of spares:

Re: Hit 14
I was near Bosham on Sunday but didn't see a Hit, only a Streaker and an unidentified single-hander with a logo of a letter R in a triangle - the Hit has a circle for a logo, I believe.

Flying Saucer (14') and Apollo (11') were both built by Fenton Hill Marine in East Anglia - I've got an old advert somewhere.

Re: Early Int. Moth info.
Today's update: while the Magnum 2 dominated in late '75 and early '76, it failed to win the '76 worlds, euros or nationals which were all light weather, so for 1977 the Magnum 3 was given a bit more displacement and rocker (the Magnum 2 had basically no rocker, just a slight turnup at the bow and s...

Re: Early Int. Moth info.
Here are a couple of fuzzy pics grabbed from the German website, showing the wider hull of the Magnalium and a Magnum 2 with a non-standard self-draining cockpit; s/d cockpits didn't become standard on Claridge-built boats until 1978-9 and at first still had a stern tank with a drainage tube through...

Re: Early Int. Moth info.
This thread has gone very quiet, and I don't know whether David H is working on a Moth history somewhere, so here is my 'History of the Magnums' compilation, made up from pics on the old Moth UK website. The Magnum in 1974 had the basic hull shape, no flares, wood wings with lots of frames inside, a...

Re: Twisting/bending 6mm plywood
So has anyone actual experience of soaking or steaming plywood, or even of slitting or scoring it to get a curve or twist into it?

Re: Twisting/bending 6mm plywood
The 6mm is cut, so layers of 3mm aren't an option. And I'm afraid it's not Robbins marine ply, so I can't really ask them...........anyway the theoretical torsional strength is only of academic interest at present. So how can I get it pliable enough to twist/torture, without doing permanent damage? ...
